Laura Morris out at CBS. Bryan Purdy from Dallas to run both markets.

All today.

Word.
 
E.M. out? Doubtful, unless something fishy went down. The cluster has been doing very well. Anyone have any confirmation of this?

Thank you Lord for letting me hang on in this business long enough to see this day arrive. Laura Morris is gone and Houston radio is better for it.

What has gone around, has finally come around.

I can already feel the morale of this radio village improving.

You might blow my cover. I'm just one of many people in this town who had the great misfortune of working under Laura's arrogant thumb.

You hit it on the head when you said management by intimidation never works. She believed in it though, because she worked at perfecting it.

I don't know what she did at other stations, but when I was at KTRH in the late 80s and early 90s, she and the News Director did it by keeping every person in that newsroom in constant fear of losing their jobs.

But, she has shown a remarkable and depressing knack for landing on her feet, and I won't be surprised to see her turn up at some other radio station here in town.
 
Lucky everybody for getting to work with Brian Purdy again. One of the truly nice guys in the biz.
 
I knew the CBS story was true (had already read it elsewhere), but still confirmation on E.M. As for Brian, I've never personally worked for him, but several of the people I am friends with have and nobody has an unkind word to say about him... so congrats to Brian and the staff at CBS Houston.

Maybe it's a sign that CC is trying to rid itself of managers that emulate AIG executives.

OK - just found out Purdy (Eddie's old buddy) is interim and Eddie Martiny will now take the reighns at CBS and report to Purdy - just like old times. He's apparently bring several of his better sellers and managers with him. CBS is apparently about to look a lot like 2000 West Loop So. THIS IS CRAZY STUFF GOING ON!!!!

As said earlier, Laura is famous for landing on her feet, no matter what. Remember how she went from KTRH to the Houston Texans to KILT in just a few months?

With Martiny going to CBS, that means his CC job is open. Don't be surprised if she's running that place again soon. She's like Jason. SHE WON'T DIE ! As Scotty said to Kirk, several times I recall, "I tell you captain she ain't human."

Not so fast there, skeptic. Ilistentotheradio, you may listen to the radio, but not the buzz.

I have confirmed with 2 different people, one of whom would definitely know (sorry, Chris, yours is hearsay, haha, and you know who you are!) that Martiny has accepted CBS. Apparently they threw a crap pile of money at him to give CBS the CC ratings. He worked for Purdy before and was willing to do it again for the crazy money they've offered.

Rumor has it he is taking his top boys with him to CBS, so radio rosters will look very, very different soon. He loves to shake things up.

As for Laura, a former friend of hers who wouldn't admit to that any more says she is dialing for dollars in smaller markets and already has a tentative offer.

So I guess Martiny isn't bound by a non compete and he can go spill CC's trade secrets and client lists to CBS. :-X CBS will probably throw him out when the interim Purdy is replaced. Just use him for whatever info they can get from him.

I'm sure he'll also start making plans to lure over his boys w&j. :-*
 
...your missing the other part of the story. DOS. There were just simply to many estrogen based turf wars in those hallways.
 
You would think that since Martiny was not mentioned in tha announcement the CBS made yesterday, most of what we are talking about is conjecture. The word is that Purdy will go to Clear Channels office on Friday with the stuff that the CC employees coming over to CBS need to fill out to complete the hiring process. If there is a packet for MArtiny, then I guess the rumor would be true.
 
Regarding Laura Morris... you live by the sword; you die by the sword. But, she won't leave this market. There will always be an owner looking for a GM, GSM or SM like her.
 
Does anyone else find this quote from the Radio Ink article to be more than a little puzzling?

"Before joining CBS Radio, Purdy was VP/Market Manager for Clear Channel/Dallas from 2002-2003, and he earlier served as CC/Houston Market manager from 1996-2001. In Dallas, he succeeds Laura Morris, who'll be staying on to assist with the transition."
