Lauren Rainson Leaving 3/5, but...

Lauren just announced on air that it was her last forecast for Arizonas family. However, she is not leaving the Phoenix area, lhinting strongly that she will be joining another station. She said to look at social media to see where she is going.

I wonder which station has hired her. Additionally, what on earth will 3/5 do with only 6 mets?

Wow!

I was watching the 10PM news, but had the sound down and missed Rainson's announcement. In a way, I don't blame her; anytime I see their latest Forecasters commercial, I don't like that Rainson was not included.

The Maricopa County Attorney Office public information officer recently resigned. Maybe Lauren is going there?

Agreed! Rainson said she was not invited to be part of the commercials. though she seemed to work harder than the 3 Forecasters it takes to do weekday evening weather at 3/5. Based on what she and Kris said, it seemed that she might pop up at another station here in Phoenix (wasn't aware that there were any openings elsewhere).

They'll be just fine. Two mets on each station weekdays with two to cover both stations on weekends. Done.

Like, they don't need more. And honestly, if all KPHO does now is simulcast KTVK's newscasts, then one in the morning, one in the evening, one on weekend morning and one on weekend evening is good enough plus two for behind-the-scenes stuff.

Looks like Tegna is finally trying to improve their news product after years of mediocrity at best. Lauren will be a good addition. She's good, but I wonder if she was only considered to be a temp/contract worker at 3/5? Maybe the bosses at Gray didn't like something (or vice versa), but Meredith's management had? Gray's loss.

Rainson has beaten Syleste Rodriguez record as the quickest turn around in local news.

I was going to read Lauren's 12News bio, but, since AZFamily hasn't taken it down, I'll read Lauren's bio on their website! 😂

Since 3/5 didn't ask Rainson to be in the commercials, I bet she was a freelancer (probably hoping to be hired full time). Anyway, I was just thinking that 12 needed another weather forecaster. I know Lindsay Riley is pregnant and has been out for several weeks. Poor Jamie Kagol and Krystle Henderson have been covering all sorts of shits plus recording forecasts for the weekend evening newscasts. Rainson will be a great addition and, perhaps, can fill in the gaps on the weekends and at Noon. Agree that it's about time 12 beefed up their staff again and put a quality product out there.

Just as an update. Rainson posted that she will debut on 12 on Sunday night, but will generally be handling the weekend morning weather as well as reporting on weekday mornings. Tricia Hendricks always look so lonely there by herself on weekend mornings. Hopefully, the Hendricks/Rainson team will do well. I will definitely tune in.

If I remember, I'll tune in Sunday. I haven't watched 12News in a long time. I used to watch on Sundays. I liked Sunday Squareoff and a flashback segment.

I couldn't remember the 'flashback' segment name, so I did a search in this forum and found my post from October 2009. Wow, it's been 13 years since Rick DeBruhl retired.

The only time I watch 12 News is on Sunday mornings (also known as the Melissa Gonzalo Comedy Hour) is to see the 2 Rick DeBruhl segments:
  • Sunday Squareoff is an entertaining panel show moderated by DeBruhl. I've gotten introduced to a lot of the AZ legislators and pundits. Rick keeps the show moving and has good topics.
  • The Basement Tapes is when DeBruhl goes back into the archives (usually from "25 years ago") and shows a local/national/world news story. I like the local ones best since I didn't live in Phoenix back then.
I hope 12 News keeps both segments.
I wish Rick DeBruhl much luck.

I started watching Tricia more frequently on weekend mornings when they appointed Monica Garcia as GMAZ anchor. I also watch 12 News at 10 occasionally. I noticed that 12 News usually starts with an investigative or in-depth human interest report, rather than the latest wrong-way driver car crash, house fire, or child near-drowning. Some nights, I appreciate that change of pace.

It's subscription only.
Yep. Sorry about that. Missed that at the top of the page. I'm a subscriber, so I don't usually pay attention when I click on it.

Anyway, to briefly summarize and keep it within fair-use rules, she was part time at 3/5, and left when opportunity knocked at 12. She's full time there.
