Law and Order to be preempted in one Top 75 market

The GM gets to make that call, but I really doubt that KVOA showing that episode of Law & Order is going to affect the community much, other than manufactured angst. The show draws - what? - 5% of the population of the metro area? And that might be generous. Then, that's assuming that everyone in Tucson is going through any kind of healing process from the shooting. Most people really don't care. That sounds harsh, but it's reality.

And to delay it BY ONLY A FEW HOURS accomplishes what? One nutcase from following in Loughner's footsteps? I think not.

Lest the GM forgets that all one has to do nowadays is WATCH IT ONLINE anyhow. So what's the point?

Yet another example of free OTA TV still being kept tied to the proverbial umbilical cord by so-called "Parents Councils" run by people who pretend to be parents BUT HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO BE ONE because they're too busy doing their own thing (Whatever it is)

Just my opinion......

Cheers :D

Completely irrelevant. There's no record of any kind of "Parents Councils" influencing the decision that KVOA's GM made.

An upcoming Law and Order episode will not air in Tucson. It mirrors the Giffords incident; the general manager of KVOA found it too much. Instead of airing in prime time, it will air in the overnight hours on May 17.

What about the ensuing reruns of this episode on USA Network? Is the local cable company going to black them out?

Not without Comcast pulling USA (and maybe its other channels) from the Cox system out of protest.

As for KVOA, what will they be showing in place? It better not be infomercials.

In this case, maybe so. But it's indicative of something the PCs would likely do though had the GM not made the call ahead of time

That said though, I wonder if KPNX 12 (Owned by Gannett) is planning to run it. Perhaps someone there could clue us in?

As for Law & Order: LA being on USA Network, it's not on there yet (And likely won't be for several more years - IF EVER since NBC is said to be considering cancelling the series outright). By then, most people will have forgotten about the Giffords incident

Cheers :D

Seriously doubt it. Parents' councils generally involve themselves with shows that children likely watch and issues they believe would be inappropriate for those children. Law & Order meets neither criterion.

Well, since I live barely 5 miles from the KPNX transmitter, I would be qualified to offer an opinion. They'll run it.
1) The shooting didn't happen here.
2) There is a much larger, more diverse population in Phoenix than in Tucson - much less likely to upset the community, and
3) I think fear of political reprisal, real or imagined, is at the center of KVOA's decision. Although the area where the shooting occurred tends to be more Republican, Tucsonians as a whole tend to be Democrat, as was Giffords. Her opponent's strength was conservative Cochise county, which is mostly outside the broadcast range of Tucson stations. The Democratic party has been playing politics with this incident since hours after the shooting, and would likely stir up trouble for KVOA. OTOH, Phoenix tends to be more Republican, so there would be far less of a chance of effective protest against KPNX for this.

Now, if a Republican like John Shadegg had been shot in mostly-Republican northern Phoenix, airing this episode might give KPNX pause, because then Republicans would be playing politics with it, and would be more likely to try to stir up trouble for KPNX. Even so, the population here is so large and diverse, I don't think KPNX would delay the broadcast until late night.

Having said that, KPNX will almost certainly lead off their late local news that night with a tie-in between the show and the Giffords shooting. And interview the ubiquitous Kyrsten Sinema, the biggest media hound in Arizona politics since Grant Woods.

Forgot point 4: the website running the story is from the same local Gannett organization that owns KPNX. Had KPNX not been running the show in pattern, this story would have been about KPNX with a sentence or two about KVOA at the end. Maybe.

Don't forget local media whore hound Joke Arpaio, too! :D

BTW, listings currently on zap2it.com for Monday May 16 indicate that KPNX Mesa
will air the program in pattern at 9 PM PT.

kind of off topic but not compleatly.

in the early 90`s i was in milwalkee on a visit and was listening to a morning shock jock team that was fast and loose as well as unaploogetic about everything they said.one made a jeffery dhalmer joke(i don`t think he had his trial yet then) and spent 2 to 5 minuites telling his partner things like "it wasn`t bad for me to say that?i think that was ok.don`t you?ect).i think he was talking to the listiners but it was a change of on air attiude.

i`m not editoralizing either way about it.it was just interesting.

I was trying to be nice. ;D

The difference between her and Arpaio is that they only interview Arpaio when the story is about him. If a Repub says "good morning", they'll interview Synema to get an opposing opinion.

Of course, Arpaio does all he can to make sure there's no shortage of stories about him.
