Layoff Rollercoaster Hits KNX

I hear LA Radio sent a bulletin, but no names were attached. Anybody know who was let go today?

It's tough to watch anybody walk out of the building for their last time, but especially good friends who gave their heart and soul to the stations and the company. Better days, my friends.

according to DOn Barrett, the list includes Joe Cala, Vytas Zafronickas, Chris Madsen, Todd Leitz and Larry Van Nuys with an assumption of more to come.

Larry's the best. I liked his news reporting because of that great voice, but I also liked his interviewing style, especially with listeners when there was an earthquake, and he'd do live phones. Very calming, reassuring and informative. I also thought Vytas was a good field reporter, but Larry is legend at KNX.

so they cut kfwb almost completely, then they axe KNX reporters? why would any company do this? You would think that they would add to news moreso now that they killed kfwb, instead they are taking apart knx? This makes no sense, cutting costs at knx is not the right long term solution for them. Let's hope they bring some of the reporters back. CBS L.A. is heading in the wrong direction for sure.

Not at all. You obviously don't understand corporate mergers & acquisitions, which I'll use here as an analogy. Why would any company do this you ask? Here's why: KNX just acquired KFWB in a sense, so it now has an influx of additional reporters, anchors, staff, directors, etc. As such, there is redundancy and over-capacity in its labor force. So it has pruned back some of the staff in what is commonly referred to as a "corporate reduction in force". Does letting Larry Van Nuys go mean that it will not have a late night anchor for example? No. Rather, Bill Polish (inherited from KFWB, who BTW is also a KNX pedigree) or another anchor will be assigned to that shift.
