Layoffs at Island 106?

D

I hear there were layoffs at Island 106....anyone shed any light on this?

Maybe the layoffs were VT-ed, since no one seems to know anything...or care. Gotta figure something is up with Don McCoy becoming the "real" owner...hehehe.

3 people were let go. One was a long time employee (on air) and one was in sales. I am not sure who the third one was. I hear McCoy has taken over operation of Panama City. Anyone out there confirm this?

what in the hell is a "spoon?" ;D

Does it have something to do with Lunch Box at PFM?

No wonder these stations SUCK. Get real names. Like David Nolan. (95.1 sounded good, but I am old
did you guys get a serious power increase I missed?)

Who says that's my real name, Tibbs? (Okay, so it is... but that's beside the point).

Thanks for the comments on Beach 95.1. We're still pumping from our original site, but who knows what the future holds? (Okay, I do... but I ain't talkin'!)

(David Nolin, OM - WBPC Beach 95.1)

BTW, there's always "Freak," "Goober," "Snot" and "Inetta the Mood Setta" - All of which are real fake names I've heard in my 30 years in radio.

always notice though that tv personalities keep their real names for the most part..and you can tell..because most of them NEVER would get approved, let alone pronounced correctly by the public

Hey Nolin, remember the day when you used "Dave The LOVE SLAVE"! I think certain names bring out a PERSONALITY in certain on air talent situations. "Spoon", "Smiley Jay", "Mastro" (What in the HELL does that mean?) are GAY sounding names! Now take names like "KATO" (Green Hornet Fame), "YODA" (Little Green Thing As BEAVER, another great air name, once said), "ShortBus" (great name), "Kramer" (Every market has one) "Marty or Artie The One Man Party, (See Kramer) & "BUTTCRACK" (Youngblood, one of my favorite all time engineers!) are all names that apply to their respective formats! Those names sound better than something BORING like "Steve Michaels"! I think another jock or two should call themselves "DOCTOR" in the market! At least Shane Collins knows he was the "ORIGINAL" user!

Could done without being reminded of the DLS thing. It was a one-off one time thing that I DID NOT INSTIGATE during a one-night stand at Island 106 13 years ago! And now you know why I was never invited back.

David, I thought it was FUNNY! Dave the "LOVE SLAVE" was GREAT! You were a part of the DOMINO experience when we were in the Old Building with ISLAND 106 & 97X! I don't think anything will ever duplicate the FUN we had over there! You were as WHACKED OUT as all of us were and I am glad you were there! Hope things are well at BEACH 95.1! WIth you and Jim Dooley at the helm, I am sure you will be AMAZING! Thanks for everything and part of will always know you as "DAVE THE LOVE SLAVE"!

Is the midguy new? Haven't caught his name but doesn't sound like Spoon. Did Spoon get let go?

I was in the market last week. The jock is the worthless PD of WKMX in Dothan, Arron Tyler.

On the subject of WILN, I was in the market last month and I have to say, Island 106 is one of the strongest small market CHRs in the country. Sounds more like a Top 100 station than something transmitting from Panama City. Everything clicks - there's local flair, the music's perfectly balanced, the imaging is great, and the airstaff is excellent.

I would be remiss if I didn't highlight the morning show. Kramer, Holly and Miguel echo Q100/Atlanta's highly-regarded Bert Show and if there's any justice, they'll be in a town much closer in status to Atlanta than PC in the not-so-distant future. They've got major market potential.
