Layoffs at KNX

Alan Oda’s blog is reporting that on-air personalities Frank Mottek and Randy Kerdoon, as well as production coordinator Ruch Hudson, have been shown the door.

Makes you wonder what on earth they are thinking. If I'm not mistaken wasn't KNX recently boasting "Golden Mike" awards for Mottek's coverage?

Grim.

However, the writing was on the wall. All-news radio stations are slowly cutting back on in house sports. A quick scores update can be read by the anchors on duty. Other sports journalism can be covered by the sports-talkers in the same cluster.

Kerdoon was the last sports anchor at KNX, and sports updates don't even happen in other day parts.

I really like Frank Mottek but it was shocking that he had hung on as a dedicated business reporter. Again, you can just take the very high quality Bloomberg reports, customized for your station, and call it a day. I always wondered who the audience was for the noon business hour.

It's too bad he was shown the door. At some point, Dick Helton is going to retire and they'll need a strong voice as the replacement. I thought Mottek would have been a good choice - I don't think Chris Sedens is as strong.
