Have there been any positions eliminated at your local TV stations recently? In December, WKRG-TV in Mobile laid off seven employees, including Chris Frye, a sports reporter, and yesterday ten more positions were eliminated, thus resulting in the termination of Jere Hough, a weather reporter and feature reporter of 20 years.

Jere Hough’s final report was about three calves (one bull and two heifers) born at the same time. One news presenter at TV5 commented on how adorable Jere Hough appeared giving one of the calves milk from a bottle. Another news presenter simply commented, “That’s cute” after Jere Hough appeared for the final time on TV5.

The station must have figured out he was no longer needed since he did not appear as frequently as his three fellow weather reporters in the past few years. It’s hard to watch the local newscasts while having knowledge of what’s going on behind the news.

I saw his story on 20/20. Apparently he is not trying to find a job in any other market. So he is going from making $250,000 a year to $30,000 as a Veterinarian Assistant.

They didn't explain why he didn't call other News Directors at other stations and at least try to find another anchoring job. I am sure someone would hire him.

Or maybe he thnks this exposure will lead to people calling him!

Layoffs at WCAX-TV, channel 3 in Burlington, Vermont included Shawna Lidsky, their morning sports anchor/reporter, and Rachael Morrow, the morning news producer and reporter. Several other employees were also let go along with photographer Steven Longchamp.
