Layoffs......

My wife says that quite a few radio people have come looking for jobs at the tv station where she is working.

These people are from all departments, not just jocks.

Alot of them have been cut from AGM but she has seen a couple from Buckley as well.
Does anyone feel that this is the direction we are headed for good?

I realize the economy is pretty bad but do you think that local radio will be a thing of the past in the next few years?

I hope not but I was wondering if you felt the same?

Smaller, local companies must invest in quality leadership, talent and syndicated programming. If they do not, they will not win or even stay afloat in this economy.

KGET died (even with Rush). KERN has slipped enourmously and has cut staff. KNZR got Rush and has surrounded him with local talent and has seen ratings results. But is sales doing the job? Not hearing many new ads on 1560.

By the way, I hear major trouble is on Buckley's doorstep and is ready to knock. Will S. Darnell confirm?

:(

Heres something, Lotus put an ad in Sundays Fresno bee's job section looking for DJ's

As long as the sales are still coming in local radio isn't going anywhere. Obviously it's changed quite a bit. I.E. Voicetracking, syndication, multitask oriented talent etc. Look at CC they run on skeleton crew as far as talent goes. If you are a full time voice talent there you double as management, producer, jock, head cook and bottle washer. I am sure it's the same for every company right now. I really don't see how they could let go of anymore jocks or sales staff for that matter. But hey, never say never....

It was in The Job section on Sunday October 26 ,its usally the last section of the paper Under Help Wanted Radio.

layoff's coming to Clear Channel and Peak Broadcasting, mostly non air staff though
