Layoffs

I heard there were layoffs at Entercom today..... more sad news for the local economy and radio in general.

Inside Radio is reporting today that Clear Channel has cut 3% of programming, engineering & office personnel. According to the report, a total of 590 jobs cut.

Wow, that's a hit.

Inside Radio is now reporting that Cumulus is requiring all employees to take 5 days of unpaid leave between May 1st & June 30th. The story wasn't sure if this included the separate corporation that holds the former Susquehanna stations. Just a question for those who might know..when these people take unpaid leave, are they allowed to file for unemployment bennies for the lost time??

"Manic Marc" is still on the part-time roster at WKRZ. From what I gather it was just a schedule change and cut in hours due to cuts, but he's still on.

Best of Luck to the Rest though!

the weekend staff? What did they save there? Not taking into account any board op positions..

Slot VTing time
12-6am Sat 1
6-10am Sat 1
10-3pm Sat 1
3-7pm Sat 1
7-mid Sat 1

12-6am Sun 1
6-10am Sun 1
10-3pm Sun 1
3-7pm Sun 1
7-mid Sun 1

Total 10 hours

So they save what $70-100 a week? Genius!

I'm sorry to hear these people lose their jobs. My heart goes out to you.

Radio-Info's main page is now reporting that Clear Channel will do away with local news operations and then turn several of their clusters around the country into "local news hubs" supplying and doing news for stations within pre-set districts. This approach is much like the reorganization that Metro Networks did last summer combining local offices into large hubs. For example the Dallas,Texas office serves many Texas cities, as well as cities in Oklahoma, & Arkansas. The Washington DC Metro office serves all Maryland markets, DC & all Virgina markets. I wonder how many jobs go out the door with this move?

Names? Why is it we never get names? Are there that few currently working in radio posting here? On a related note; we never got names when WYOU shut down either. A few names here and there, but no full and complete list. By some accounts, the total at WYOU/WBRE was somewhere in the low twenties total, and yet we've heard maybe five or six names. Just being really nosy, that's all.
