Lazer is cuurently stunting, playing songs with "Jack" in them. They saye that there will be an announcement tomorrow at 10AM.

Be sure to check out their website...
______________

www.lazer1069.com says "coming soon"
www.lazer103.com says "the hog is coming"
WFMR is silent at 106.9
WLZR is playing pop luck (country, polka, etc..)

Oh, how the mighty hath fallen. A year and a half ago, who would have thunk that WLZR would be forced to change by 97.3 FM, then WLTQ, now WQBW?

Somehow I think this is a publicity stunt... Think about it "The Hog Is Coming"... Think outside the box. They're probably going to announce a Harley giveaway or something.

WFMR is back on the air. That must have been an unrelated technical glitch!

Yes, I was also thinking that may be what this stunt is all about.

I know that last year sometime, the local active rock played I Wanna Rock over and over again, just as they did when they flipped WKQH to Active Rock from Classic Hits in 2003. The second weekend stunt was all for just a giveaway of beer for a year.

I guess right now, we just have to wait for the answer tomorrow at 10 or whatever they said. It really could be anything.
______________

What a shock, I'd think of it to be one of the last stations to flip to a Jack. AllAccess reports that they could be goin to Jack.

They are the heritage rock station, and were killing WKLH and WLUM..... I've never heard of a station stunt actually mess with songs or line-up unless it is a true format flip.

When Illinois's 100.7 The Bus went "boom," they didn't mess with the music or format that much......just the website. Turns out Boom Boom was coming to nights.

This looks more serious. Such a shame that very many heritage stations are getting killed for this lame Jack fad.

I can't believe that Saga would bring back Keith Hastings only to flip it to a Jack-type station. There are several different sayings when you go to www.lazer103.com (which forwards to www.thehogiscoming.com).

They say...

"The wimp brigade called. We didn't answer"
"Rick Springfield is screwed."
"Oink"
"Because Quarterflash was never cool. Ever."
"Mr. Big sucks. That's why I'm coming."
"'Phil Collins' and 'Manly' don't go together."
"Get ready to do it hoggy style."

This will be interesting.

Sounds like it's gonna flip to the hard rock Jack, like K-Rock in NYC. AC/DC, Def Leppard, etc., with some new currents thrown in. All they are doing is just dropping some of the active rock stuff that's become passe in the last year and replacing it with harder eighties rock.

If I'm right, it sucks. Just more Classic Rock coming your way. BORE-ING!!!!

OK Eggy, what would you suggest they do? You have made it clear on the Chicago board that you dont like many formats.

Unless the random liners on the web site are just a ploy, it sounds as if they're not going to go Jack, or a "Hog" or "Pig" version of it.

I also doubt it would be a reincarnation of 107-oink-5 the Pig, which got roasted in Memphis a couple years ago and became a CHuRban station. The Pig played a blend of rock/classic rock/blues which I thought was pretty unique at the time (but apparently too unique for good books).

I wish WVAZ's IBOC signal did not cover 102.9 for me; I'd like to hear what's going on up there!

As of now you arent missing much, unless you want a typical stunt with polkas etc.

I'll post airchecks on the Airchecks board as soon as I get the tapes copied to MP3.
______________

Hah... Cool. Thanks for the info! Perhaps I'll be blessed with some hot tropo that can help WLZR-- er, WHQG punch through IBOC. It happened for me when The Brew flipped. I even picked up their new RDS PS.

WLZR seems to be on very low power or off because I'm not getting it now.

However if they go back on you may be in luck. I'm getting WPJP Port Washington, WI and WHBZ Sheboygan, WI via DX and some religious station on the 102.9 frequency with WLZR out.
______________

I would love to program LAZER 103, it used to be a great Rock station in the mid-nineties.

Rock stations in Milwaukee, Chicago and the rest of the country need to evolve. Active Rock like Korn, Godsmack, Disturbed is dead!! And Classic Rock is tired and Milwaukee (and Chicago) has enough of them.

A NEW ROCK format would work well in an alternative minded rock town like Milwaukee. More Kings of Leon, Killers, Bloc Party and less Metalica, Staind and AC/DC.

The Rock audience is evolving, and they are offended by all the bad NU METAL forced down their throat all decade. HIP HOP is starting to fade and Rock & Roll is coming back.

But stupid radio doesn't know that. Internet radio does, sattelite radio does, mp3 fans know it. They keep taking Rock and Roll off the radio and the Rock fans will never come back -- to any type of terrestrial radio. And the real Rock fans aren't gonna listen to Jack or a harder edge Jack for that matter.

Conditions are quite "long" tonight. Lots of stuff coming in from all over.

Though I enjoy my classic rock, you do make some good points!

Tropo was holding up this morning too (WMYX strong, WLZR/WHQG audible), but unfortunately at work I can hardly even get a single 50kw station 10 miles away. Maybe I'll still be able to hear a sampling via DX this evening.
