Ahh DUH!!! maybe Radio Ranchera will go to 850 and 101.7 (850 does have better coverage than 1230...even at night!)

NO where near Houston right now to listen to their announcments, but if I am not mistaken, I think XO will get 101.7. La Ranchera will probably just get 850 AM. It's true, it is one of the bests signals in Houston (daytime) and it reaches all the way to the southeaster Louisiana area.

Well I heard that La Nortena is getting 96.9 fm and 1230 am. But I also heard XO saying they will stay on 107.9 fm. So maybe it La Ranchera will get 850 and 101.7 fm.

So for those of us keeping score at home, KXGJ and KEYH will now simulcast each other as La Ranchera and KIOX and KQUE will simulcast each other as La Nortena? Did someone forget about KQQK? Is 107.9 going to stand alone as XO now? This eerily reminds me of the KQBU/KKPN/KLTN/KQQK/KXTJ/KLTO swap from about 10 years ago.

Um....speaking of changes, why is 101.7 listed as KEYH-FM on LBI's website? Last I checked it was still KXGJ/Bay City. Thinking about this whole scenario more and more, I wonder if we're getting a Sonido down here?

That hasn't stopped them before, juan. If "La Ranchera" indeed ends up at 850, it will be for the second time. "Azucar" has been placed on 880 3 times now.

The old La Ranchera was a product of (I believe) El Dorado Communications. It was a whole different company from Liberman. Not the same owners. La Ranchera is the name they usually use for these types of stations (originally coming from KHJ from Los Angeles). How the name Radio Ranchito originally found its way here is a mystery. I'm not surprised they changed the name at all to La Ranchera from Radio Ranchito. I wouldn't be surprised to see if Liberman Changes the name of La Nortena to El Norte or vice versa.

Azucar is just a "back up" format KJOJ. They have no intensions of selling air time for Azucar 880 AM. Think of it as a way to keep their station on the air. It is their version of Cumulus' construction sounds they put when they change formats.

The chances of Sonido coming back are vey slim. I think they are just ajusting their stations to make La Ranchera benefit with a stronger signal.

Anyways, anyone can tell me what they switched? I hear Los Cardenales de Nuevo Leon on 96.9, but it was for a few seconds because I have an LPFM completely covering me. 101.7 is also killed by KSAM.

I see your point. Didn't know that KEYH was once owned by El Dorado, though. Seems odd that Univision would let 850 go with its great signal penetration, and keep KLAT's which isn't so great due to KBBW/Waco.

I scanned to KQUE after lunch today. It has definitely changed but didn't have time hear what station it is now. To me, it sounded like XO on AM. I'll check again as soon as I am off duty.

Univision never owned 850 afaik (but could have--I dont remember it).....El Dorado owned it then sold it to Liberman along with 107.9.

La ranchera at one time in Houston was a very popular station! 96.9 AND 101.7 WHAT A WAIST OF SIGNALS i would buy them in a heart beat if liberman wasent trying to sell them like Houston signals.I heard all weekend Noreno 850 before the flip and was amazed by the lack of Norteno music! and Azucar is straight out Tejano. Why is Liberman making all these changes? could it be Possible that the rumor that Bmp will be comming to Houston soon could be true? Oh yeah and by the way the Rockets will no longer be on KYST they will now be on 1230am.

New Info on this topic. La Nortena was fliped to 96.9 fm to have a better sginal in houston on fm. Yes 101.7 fm has a better signal and even HD but the signal of 96.9 Fm is closer to houston so it has a stronger sound in houston.

101.7 is a better signal? In what way?

Last time I checked, KXGJ (101.7) stopped their HD broadcasting and KIOX had their IBOC on. I think La Nortena was flipped so La Ranchera can have the dominant signal in Houston. Seems to me they give La Ranchera the upperhand over La Nortena.

Well if you go to www.radio-locator.com you could see that they both have a 100,000 watt signal, but the signal of 96.9 fm is closer to houston. Than the one of 101.7 fm. And well almost all hispanics never listen to AM anymore. Thats the reason why that change.

96.9 is a Class C0...101.7 was filed for and got a CP as a Class C0 (upgrade from a C1) and would share the same antenna with 96.9 but instead of 100kw out, they would be limited to 28kw ERP.....range difference, about 3-5 miles...maybe..
