LEAK: New KTRB station 860 is going on this week

Hello. Here is an interesting new fact regarding the new station here on 860 on AM radio.

As a former worker on the tower site I was in Livermore on Sunday afternoon. I was taking some photos of the 860 tower site when a black Tahoe pulled out from the far corner of the site. The security guard nearly grabbed my camera as I ran back to my station wagon. He asked me what I was doing there, and I explained that I am documenting the new radio station. He was telling the other guy in the Tahoe that "somebody" would be upset about this, and that he would tell them in person on Wednesday night when they "fire it up".

I called the guard over to the gate and offered him a nice 5 dollar bill, and he spilled that the station is going to start on Wednesday night at 12 midnight PST. He said someting about "running out of time, and that they had to put something on right away or face many thousands of dollars in fines." He was really upset about me taking a few pictures, but I told him I was working with "the paper" and was "assigned" to this project.

I had an old metal clipboard in the back of my Buick, and I pulled it out..tore out my notes, and asked the guard to sign in the clipboard. You know if you have a metal clipboard and someone asks what you are doing, just pull it out, and you look official, so they leave you alone. This works many times for me.

I also have a set of orange rubber safety cones in the trunk. You can put a few of these around your car and park darn near anywhere you want.

Anyway the leak is out. KTRB will be on the air at midnight Wednesday night, Thursday morning. I know I will be listening, and I have several of my friends that will be DXing to see how this blow torch will reach out.

Yes

Listen my friend, this will happen all right. Go ahead, and don't listen. The rest of us will tune in to see what a brand new station sounds like.

You are like the fellows at school. You don't believe me? Fine. Go bowling or something. You will see I am right. I heard what I heard, and the security company apparently fired this fellow yesterday because he called my cell phone Monday afternoon and told me the entire story. I can't tell you what he said, but they'll be signing that station on the air on radio tomorrow night all right. I have a Buick Roadmaster station wagon, and I will drive over and wait at midnight with a few of my buddies.

Lies.

KTRB won't be broadcasting from Livermore.

Anyone remember the move to over by the Antioch Bridge?

Mr. Pappas, you around to verify?

A $5.00 bribe? When did this happen, 1964?
I was going to say 1933, when the original KTRB signed on :D

"Go bowling or something?" Ouch. No need to get ugly.

The transmitter site *is* in the hills near Livermore, and it is just about ready to go. (There is a photo at the bottom of the page at http://tinyurl.com/3cx9ow)

HHalland's tale smacks of hyperbole, however. KTRB may begin stunting soon, but the regular programming schedule won't start for a while.

Sorry DJ,,

I was under the impression that they were going for the Jersey Island site, as is what's shown on Radio-locator... I remember seeing both the novato and livermore sites before, but Jersey Island was the most recent one...

Any explanation? (Just for my own stupid curiousity)

Thanks for the information and your resourceful detective work Howard.

Can't wait to hear what happens at midnight!

I owe HHalland an apology for not believing him. It's just that the so-called "Five Dollar Bribe", just made it sound like it was not true. Now if you would have said, Twenty Dollars or more, I probably would have believed it. I wish I would be able to listen to it, but since I now live in Montana, I can't. Hopefully they will be streaming online soon.

Our tower site is just south of the Livermoore/Pleasanton area.

Well KTRB 860 is on the air! Now can somebody tell me if they are up to their full 50,000 watts during the day already? How about at night the full 50,000 or not? Or are they just tuning up the coverage contours of both the day and night signals before increasing the power levels to 50,000 watts? Here in the Sacramento area the nighttime signal is much better. The daytime signal is weak I wonder if it is going to get any stronger? Any news about whether there will be any streaming audio? The station is playing music I haven't heard in many many many years sounds great to hear those songs again too bad it is going to be short lived.

Yes this is fine business. I very much like this sound. You know there is a good chance that they will keep this going for awhile especially if we all write the paper. I feel like a jackass for listening to 680 last night. What a clown I must have looked like. Well Diane got home and her cat was fed, and Bill and I drove over to Honey's Pizza and got Italian around 2:30. Man I am whipped. We went out to that old Oakland site (I think it's 1270 but as usual I may be way off) around 4:30 and took a few pictures. We even heard KXEL in Waterloo, Iowa while driving up there. Hey you know Delco made a really good car radio you know? Gads I am so tired I am seeing little green blobs when I try to watch TV..jeeeshamama huh? Good night I am hitting the rack early tonight. That KTRB is really loud ain't it?

Your station is running out of phase or with only half the stereo information making the mono stream.

Look here my friend, it is NOT my station. It belogs to Mr.Pappas, and his company. I had a small part early on, but left abruptly because of a very personal reason which i shall not discuss here okay? Thanks. Now as far as the out of phase situation, let's not forget that much of what we are hearing is probably coming from a single computer that is only in place for testing purposes only okay? I have a photgraph of the probable cmputer they are using and I can assure you sir it is NOT suited for full version access okay? This station is on to test the RF waves and not so much the audio. This will explain the repeating, and the noises.

JEEEZ I just heard that.

What the blip WAS that? Now if you're so smart tell me what THAT was, and why it sounded like that, and I will believe you are actually here in california, and actually have even listened. Most of you people are from out of state and don't really know what you're talking about anyway so there is no need to attack me personally or mae accusations that are completely off the beam okay? all right then we are friends right?

The message about phasing was connected to a quote from Mr. Pappas. It's not all about you, Howard. Get some sleep. I'm going for a walk in North Beach on fine sunny day in San Francisco.
