"Leapfrogging HD Radio"

"Leapfrogging HD Radio"

"In today's HD Radio news, we discover that Sony will be producing some (particularly ugly) models for the tabletop and to adapt Sony-branded car stereos." :D

Hey Mark, that is what I said ! :D Even Ramsey seems oblivious to the technical deficiencies with HD/IBOC, especially in-dash HD Radio, with the Doppler Effect and parallel digital/analog audio processing - consumers will not put up with cutouts, as with digital cell phones, and constantly having to adjust the volume.

Actually I like the Sony table radio, but it is worth $50. At that price point I would buy it.

The add on is a bad idea. The tuners need to be IN the radio. This add on stuff 2004 first generation material.

I know better than to take the bait, but did the thought ever cross your mind that maybe your bosom buddy Ramsay is oblivious to the technical deficiencies because you're not really right?

Why do you suppose he "IS" so "Oblivious"? Kinda sounds like another one of those "Alternate Reality" things from another thread.

In my experience, when the audio falls back to analog in a moving environment, the switch is hardly noticeable when the station is processed properly and the audio is time-aligned precisely. The only time you'll notice the loss of digital reception is when listening to HD-2 or higher channels.

I personally get good results listening to HD-2 and beyond channels in a moving vehicle. Very few dropouts until I get close to 40 miles away from a station. 8)

Getting the tuner as far away from the computer-audio reconstructor is the ONLY way to have full sensitivity for AM.
Someone at Sony is thinking like a real RF engineer.

I'd think a 10-foot umbilical/coax would be enough.
Either that, or teach the engineers something about the use of REAL METAL for shielding and proper de-coupling of power supplies, or even a separate supply for the analog power.

It's amusing that people who say everything must be "in the radio" are the same ones who insist that we all must have Ipods docking stations in our cars. Hmmmm. Add-ons are useful only WHEN THEY SAY SO!

Remember the early 90s show "Dinosaurs" on ABC? The father in that show worked for the "We Say So Corporation". Others here must work there as well.
