Does anyone that posts on this board actually like listening to the radio or working in the industry? The vast majority of the posts are just complaints about the programming, the staff, the companies, the hiring/firing practices, the signal strength, etc. All while hiding behind screen names. Damn, if people hate radio so much, get the (BLEEP) away from it. Otherwise they should make the best of it and stop crying about how much sand they have in their vaginas.
______________

It's no different than the conversation you hear hanging around any office water cooler. You ever hear people there say things like: "Gee this is a swell job. I am so happy to come to work every day I can hardly sleep the night before." It doesn't mean we don't like it; it's just human nature. Same with gossip. It's an illicit pleasure for most people.

Perhaps I'm not getting out enough and that is a common expression, but it strikes me as bizarre.
______________

But that's just it, Salty...this isn't like other jobs...Being in radio kicks ass...the only thing that I wish was different would be the $, but other than that it is one of the best gigs on earth, IMO. As far as the sand in the vag...I'm a yankee, maybe no one says that down here? Sounds like show prep to me...

I rest my case

And there you have it. Someone who's upbeat and positive, and has passion for the business. Someone who prefers to see and discuss the good, as opposed to searching for the bad.

On the other hand, you have someone who perhaps has passion, but it all comes out negatively. The type that can't wait to find a scab to pick, or someone down on their luck to kick.

I've been around since the days of horse-drawn turntables, and there's a whole lot about today's radio that I don't like. Still, rather than bitch about everything's that wrong, I'd prefer to post something that I can be positive about...not that I always accomplish it, but still, I try.

The Radio-Info policies state, “The purpose of our message boards is to provide forums for discussion about radio.” Frankly, I take that to mean serious discussion. Nowhere does it say that these boards are a place to bitch, moan, piss and complain about every damned facet of the radio business. Nor does it say that it is a place to gossip like two old-maid school teachers, about everybody you don’t like.

Lead on, Cavey.

All you have posted is admirable and something to strive for. I don't know that I have posted anything of a bitchy, complaining or gossipy nature but I don't want to put myself on a pedestal either. I've posted things I shouldn't have I'm sure.

Any time I can have a discussion without it somehow turning acrimonious or worse, political, I count that as a good day.
______________

Oh yeah, I remember those, Jay.

They worked fairly well; the QRK Equine editions saved us a little money too, because we could just hang the mic from the horse's tail... didn't need mic booms.

I will be the first one to admit, I am a very opinionated person, and I let my opinions be known here on R-I.

Radio isn't a bad job, if you're single or do it part-time. Otherwise, it's a tough road to travel. Some of the folks who post negatively are professionals blowing off steam, while others are just people who are armchair DJ's.

I think I complain MUCH less about Savannah radio than I did about my former place of residence, Richmond, VA.

Anyway, I think both sides should be presented. Too much oblivious happy talk is just as bad as being a constant sad sack.

so you're complaining about those who complain? it could've been done better especially without the language!
