Lee Abrams Leaving XM?

Yes, moving back to Chicago to work for Tribune. His philosophy on programming has been erroded over the last couple years, XM is becoming more mainstream and FM like.

not as bad a sirius...there you get the morning zoo type shows, imaging after every song, massive amounts of voicetracking (on every channel) and fewer choices for music. sirius has 1 CHR, 1 AC, 1 Hot AC (that doubles as the 90's channel), atleast with XM you get the Clear Channel stations and a few more stations that have similar libraries (ie 20on20 and Hitlist)

If you read Abrams' blog he thinks a creative hookup with Randy Michaels will be unstoppable. Obviously Tribune will be moving beyond newspaper and TV shortly.

I think that Abrams knew to get out while the getting was good because XM has become increasingly conservative but compared to Sirius is still quite innovative. If (when) the merger goes thru and Karmazin takes over duplicate stations on XM would be eliminated and the Sirius philosophy - sound as much like corporate radio as you can - will reign. Obviously this would run counter to where Abrams wants to be and Karmazin would off him anyway.

A few years ago I attended the retirement party of a beloved fellow jock and was
pleasantly astonished that, as part of the going away ceremony, a plaque on the
wall was uncovered, and there, etched in metal, was his name. The owners had
honored their longtime associate by naming one of their newly built studios after him.

XM should name one of their satellites after Abrams.
