Left Of Center: a true alternative

Left Of Center 26 is the first channel I can listen to in my area (New York) that presents alternative rock in a truly listenable format; great real alternative music plyed by informed DJ's, as opposed to what some consultant or the Billboard Modern Rock charts say should be played. The only thing that could make this channel better is to have DJ's on 24/7, including late-nights, and less canned voice-tracking.

Left Of Center is a great alternative to mainstream alternative stations, and certainly better than listening to Howard Stern's various "superfans", hangers-on and parasites reviewing the Howard Stern show over and over again.

Amen Sir! LoC is a pretty decent Indie/College/Alt. channel! Personally, some of the small college campus FM's around the country that play Indie are exceptional and better IMO, but LoC gets a thumbs up from me. It's preset #2 for me, BBC Radio 1 takes #1 :)

I'll second those comments. I've been pleasantly surprised by Left Of Center.

I would be loath to limit myself to one or two music streams -- I love Sirius's variety -- and I expected from the outset to at least give Left of Center a try. That said, I've found myself listening to and enjoying Left of Center more than I expected.

Regarding my own personal enjoyment, 21 Alt Nation has also breathed some new life into the alternative format.

As for BBC Radio 1, I was delighted when Sirius added it. In other words, what took them so long? :)

One thing I wish, though, for BBC Radio 1, is that the title-and-artist would be displayed on my radio screen the way it is with so many other Sirius music streams (including, happily, Left of Center).

Absolutely! It's a real treat to finally hear BBC Radio 1 after all these years of only being able to hear BBC news. The variety and presentation is unique and entertaing, and I've discovered some great music on it. But I agree, sometimes my American ears have a hard time deciphering the exact songs and bands from the British DJ's, it would be great if there was a way they could show the text with the songs and artists.

The problem with Radio 1 doing that is that it's recorded and then rebroadcast about 5 hours later. Granted, the technology is there, but I wonder if the music industry is being whiny about it because if it's stored on a hard drive complete with name and title...you *do* have a new, unlicensed copy of a song, no?

The same thing is true when El Covino and Kayla do the top 20 of the year or what not on Octane. All the title says is "Top 20 on Octane 20 w/ Covino and Kayla"

It does suck though...as it means I have no clue who some of the unique British artists are :(
