Legal ID on WCTX/59 "UPN 9"

Sometimes the legal ID on WCTX/59 is incorrect when it mentions Channel 28 the lowpower repeater station. Sometimes it's listed as WCT28 instead of W28CT. I've only noticed this error since they rebranded the station as "UPN 9".

Thanx. Make sure you tell them it's not all the time. Sometimes it does say W28CT. And sometimes W28CT isn't listed at all.

Where repeaters are concerned, the parent stations aren't required to announce them hourly, like full-powered stations do. I think the law says that repeaters must be identified at least once a day.
 
I never even knew this repeater existed, so I checked the coverage map on the FCC website. I'm curious as to why WCTX would even bother having this repeater. Based on the map the only towns it covers are Farmington, New Britain, and parts of West Hartford and Newington. It doesn't even reach into the Hartford city limit (according to the map). I can't imagine that there are still many people in these communities using an OTA antenna that would take advantage of this repeater.

OTA Reception of Channel 59

When Channel 59 first came on as WTVU in April 1995 I was living in Bristol and they weren't on cable. I had to use rabbit ears to watch the station, which didn't show much besides The OJ Simpson Trial simulcasted from KTLA/5. They came in almost crystal clear with a pair of rabbit ears.

Does this W28 repeater broadcast over channel 28 or channel 11? The last time I was in Farmington (about a month ago) I could not pick up anything on ch 11. I did not try 28.

W28CT is currently on 11 with a CP to go to 28 as a class A station.
(The call sign reflects the 28 CP, not the 11 license).
