LEGAL ID REQUIREMENTS

I'm confused (again):
what''s the current legal ID requirement for HD service...
I hear some identifying the analog only...i.e...."WZZZ-FM Anytown" even thought they have HD...
others ID both...i.e. "KZZZ-FM and KZZZ-HD West Anytown"

is the HD id now required?
and what about the HD-2...or even HD-3?

Hey Romer,

I am curious of the same... Here in Portland, OR stations are now IDing all HD stations separately, including the HD-1 station. For example, "KNRK, KNRK HD-1, Camas/Portland" and "KNRK HD-2, Camas/Portland".

Technically, they should probably ID as "KNRK Camas/Portland, KNRK HD-1 Camas/Portland" as the city of license should be immediately after the callsign, but I see no need to ID every HD channel separately, especially since the ID is included in the HD Radio data stream. For the HD-1 station, "KNRK, Camas/Portland" should be more than sufficient.

But since I haven't been able to find the rules regarding HD station identification I haven't been able to confirm this.

Yo Chris--

What about non-comms or educational stations? For a while a few months ago KMHD was simulcasting its HD2 channel on its 92kHz SCA channel and I only heard them ID it a small handful of times in that entire period (like, maybe 4 or 5 times.) All those times they used their standard ID like they do on the main channel. Are the rules different for NCE's that multicast or are they bound to the same ID regulations as commercial FM?

Citidel's 97.5 here has HD-1 The appropriate legal ID, is similar to the old one pre-digital.

It's just expanded a bit. You may wish to talk to The FCC about this, or look it up in the CFR.

This is what they do -

"Bob-FM is 97.5 KSCR-FM Oro Valley/Tucson and KSCR - HD 1 Oro Valley Tucson. Sweeeeet... Bob Is in High Def."

97.5 Bob FM's call sign is KSZR, not KSCR-FM. (KSCR-FM is licenced to Benson, Minnesota.)

My bad... I wrote it incredibly fast...and didn't proof it. You are correct.
