Legal IDs for HD1 stations

The last few times I've listened to WCBS-FM at the top of the hour, they have said WCBS-FM New York HD1. Is this now a legal requirement for FM stations broadcasting in HD with our without an HD2 "sister station." ?

Thanks

Yes it is. In the new rules for the HD radio service, which went into effect last Friday, the legal ID rule (section 73.1201) was amended to state that HD radio streams must be ID'ed so that the listener knows he or she is listening to a digital broadcast. Each HD channel must now carry a legal ID once per hour, just like the analog channels, and you'll probably hear the analog and HD1 channels ID'ing simultaneously in most cases.

Ridiculous if you ask me for the main channel. The multicast channels? OK. No problem, but the main channel stream should be covered under the regular ID. More nonsense.

It's cool. I like knowing if a station is in Digital even before I try tuning in (in case I try tuning a station not in digital and thinking my radios have a problem when the reason is the station is not digital to begin with).

If you had a real analog-tuned radio you'd never have any doubt about what you're tuning in to. It's not possible to NOT hear the saddlebags, AM or FM.

I really think CBS-FM should go back to their original 60's, 70's & 80's Hour Jingle. For HD1 Channels it does not make any sense to ID it as HD1. HD2 and beyond I can see having their own top of the hour ID.
