Legend picks up Nascar

After not having an MRN/PRN affiliate in Atlanta last year 96.7 the legend has become the new home for Nascar in Atlanta. The only problem is that The Legend isn't a metro wide signal. It's better than no affliate at all.

I was just thinking today of the NASCAR promos that the networks sent out in the late 70s. I believe it was MRN that had the really snazzy music bed... the promos were so up tempo that a good jock would would play the promo last and go into an up tempo song. I just did a search online looking for an audio clip of that music bed, but could not find anything.

Is it true that some jocks were bold enough to play one of these promos leading into a death dedication? ::)

Yes Legend is an "Atlanta Market" station just as much as WEKS "The Bear" is. The Bear in south Atlanta is a MRN/PRN affiliate and has been. Also, WEKS is the only station of the two whose signal can be heard at Atlanta Motor Speedway the Atlanta NASCAR track. While I understand Legend picking up NASCAR, (it makes sense sponsor wise) however I don't understand MRN/PRN giving the programming to CC who may reach a little further north than The Bear but the two signal areas are basically overlapping. There is no "True" Atlanta MRN/PRN affiliate that covers metro Atlanta. Its either south or north of town. No station covers the full metro that carries MRN/PRN.

LOL. And then have the host drop a half-dozen F-bombs because of it (and the fact that he didn't get the week's pictures)? ;)

I'll agree with Hobbledgee that the legend is not a true "atlanta market station".... but to say that the Legend can't be heard at Atlanta Motor Speedway.... Get real.... The Legend can be heard loud and clear from the raceway..... a case can be made for the overlapping listening areas etc, but let's not use exaggerations to make our point.....

I listened to the post race show on 92.5,it was local,it would be nice to have a station with a metro wide signal to carry Nascar in Atlanta. I usally listen to it on WNGC.

Must be hard to sell, WEKS will rotate the same eight spots. At least make us think it's worth the investment to advertise on "The Bear." Although new to MRN/PRN, it sounds as though The Legend has put some effort in quality of the production of the local breaks. Good luck to both and may the NASCAR fans benefit from having a choice on the dial.
