Ron Jacobs
These just get harder and harder to write...
Ron Jacobs, who was the first of the "Boss Radio" era PDs at KHJ in Los Angeles from 1965-1969, died today in Hawaii at age 78. A fountain of creative programming and promotion ideas, his last major project at KHJ was the 48-hour "History of Rock and Roll", which aired in February of 1969. Jacobs left KHJ in May of that year to partner with KFRC, San Francisco's first Top 40 PD, Tom Rounds. They formed Watermark Productions and hired Casey Kasem to host their new show, American Top 40. In 1972, Jacobs went back to local radio at KGB AM & FM in San Diego.
