Bob Jenkins, the legendary voice of motorsports for a generation of racing fans who watched racing in the 1980s and 1990s has died at the age of 73 after a battle with brain cancer. Jenkins called the action in the IndyCar Series and NASCAR on ESPN & ABC Sports in the 1980s & 1990s and even called action for Versus (later rebranded to NBC Sports Network or NBCSN for short) for their IndyCar coverage before he retired from full time motorsports broadcasting in 2012. he was the in house PA for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in recent years, however, he was diagnosed with Brain Cancer after suffering a stroke on Christmas day last year. he revealed his cancer battle (his second battle after being diagnosed with colon cancer in 1983).
he also worked for the now defunct Speed Channel in 2005 and called the action of the 2006 Brickyard 400 on IMS Radio as well had cameo roles in the 1990 NASCAR based racing drama Days of Thunder and the 2006 NASCAR based racing comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
