Legendary Programmer Dan Kieley Passes Away

A

AbsoluteTruth

Guest
Dan Kieley
Everyone at ALL ACCESS is deeply saddened to report the passing of legendary programmer DAN KIELEY of a sudden cardiac arrest on SUNDAY (4/9) while at his home in DALLAS with his son JOE, watching the MASTERS TOURNAMENT. KIELEY, only 51, was currently partners in SNAFU CONSULTING with GARRY LEIGH and JOE KIELEY.

During his amazing radio career, KIELEY had been VP/Programming at CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 KIIS-FM (102.7 KISS-FM)/LOS ANGELES doubling the 12+ from 2.8 to 5.6 during his tenure, and was the dominant 12+ English speaking staiton in the market for eight quarters in a row.

KIELEY had also programmed KRBV/DALLAS, KDWB/MINNEAPOLIS, WLUM/MILWAUKEE, KQKQ/OMAHA, Group Programmer INGSTAD BROADCASTING/SIOUX FALLS, GRAND FORKS, LA CROSS, and Marketing Director at WBBM-F (B96)/CHICAGO.

ALL ACCESS President/Publisher JOEL DENVER said,"DAN was my good friend for nearly 30 years. His positive influence on his co-workers and friends, as well as the passion he had for radio programming and the music itself will live on in those who've had the pleasure of working with DAN and knowing him. We will miss you DAN."

CBS Top 40 WNKS (KISS 95.1) & AC WKQC (K104.7)/CHARLOTTE OM/PD JOHN REYNOLDS, commented, "DAN was one of the true visionary programmers of our time. I knew DAN and he was a major influence in my life and career. His knowledge and many of the things I do are based on DAN's vision and what I learned from him. I worked with DAN at KDWZ/DES MOINES and at WLUM/MILWAUKEE and he's been a lifelong friend in this business who I could always call and get advice and help."

Funeral arrangements are pending. DAN is survived by his son JOE and partner GARRY, his estranged wife JACQUE, and many, many, many friends.

R&R's version below. Not to kick the dead in the pants, but "legendary" is a questionable label for someone...ANYONE...who programmed Wild 100.3. Perhaps he had successes elsewhere that are more noteworthy. RIP.

>Veteran PD Dan Kieley Dies At 51

Kieley, best-known for his programming roles at KIIS/Los Angeles and KDWB/Minneapolis, among other stations, died yesterday after suffering a heart attack at his Dallas home. He was 51.

Kieley was watching the Masters golf tournament with his son, Joe, when he was fatally stricken. No other details were known at press time, and funeral arrangements are still pending.

Kieley's last fulltime PD gig was at former CHR/Pop KRBV/Dallas, which he exited in 2004. In July of that year, he and fellow Dallas programmer Garry Leigh launched Snafu Consulting, which he was most recently involved with.

Kieley has also spent time as a PD at WLUM/Milwaukee and KQKQ/Omaha, and enjoyed a stint as Marketing Director for WBBM-FM (B96)/Chicago.

Cheers! this shots to you, and this bottles for for me</P>

That's right, no need to kick anyone. We lost a friend, and human being here!

You're obviously not aware of the tremendous achievements Dan made to LEGENDARY stations like KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, and KDWB-FM in Minneapolis.

Independent of your regard, or lack thereof, for Wild 100.3, let's respect the life of the person involved.

He is respected. What is sad is the facthe was the PD of WILD in the twilight of his career. The other thing Sad is,he died at an early age. Was he in poor health? Anyone know?

I think it's sad that a smuck like you has to act like a program directors job at a station in market 5 is a "sad thing". Do you know how many program directors in radio would give there left nut for that opportunity. I'm sorry that you keep yourself in such high regard to consider that a "sad thing".

DUDE.must be catbox again.. It SAD he had to program a station Like WILD in market#5. He should have been at KVIL,or KZPS or any other station who could have used his respected talents Try to read more carefully before firing off a response...practice..practice.

Why is that a sad thing? They wanted to bring him in to change things around because of his rep. Maybe you should read more carefully. I think he would have turned that station around if they would have given him more time. They had good ratings for the morning show they just needed to make the rest of the time slots up to par. The Bulls weren't the best team when Jordan came along. That's what happens, if you want to win you bring in the best. You need to "...practice...practice" on not being suck a jerk. You obvious hatred for WILD has clouded your better judgement in making such pithy comments. The man died and all you have to bring up how sad and tragic it was that he was at WILD. All I can say is WOW!

I wouldn't put much stock into what KPLEXCOMPLEX has to say. Go read his posts. 90% of them NEGATIVE. Anytime someone calls him out on his slamming people he thinks it's this ONE dude that he's obsessed with under a new name. Fact is people are just tired of his bitter attitude.

RIP Dan Kiley. You were one hell of a programmer!!

You had one good point, about bringing him in to save it. It's sad he had to have a station like WILD to end with, and not at the top, where he richly belongs. To clarify I wasn't trashing him. Funny though how you just recently joined the group. The poster just immediately below this one employs the same tactic that many folks don't care for, that being a new alias displaying his real intent..going negative.

Hate to sadden you KPLEXCOMPLEX, you're the king of new names. EVERYBODY knows that including your last employer. I have not posted under a fake name in almost a year. I decided to be a Man and not hide behind an aliase as you continue to do. Would you like to inform us all just who you are? Step up my Man.

Quite a few names you got listed there. Talk about someone obsessed. LOL!

Negative?? You better go back and read my post under CATFISH JIM PREWITT. I don't trash anybody. That's your job fatboy. I've read past posts of yours and your constantly harping about other people using new names when they speak out about your backstabbing. I'm just ANOTHER person you attack. Hope you find peace one day Edward R, er, KplexComplex, Ray777. Perhaps Ray, YOUUU should learn to toe the company line. Hum? I've made my mistakes and i'm trying to learn from them and yes if toeing the company line is what it's all about i'll do my best. Good luck buddy!

LOL Catbox.....Let me give you a few clues oh clueless one...KZFM...KITY..KTFM..ABC...TRAFFIC PULSE. Now I gave u 5 clues so it won't be too much of a strain for you. Why the clues? Because your obsession is steering you off the road and into a cow pasture, which I must say is appropriate for ya. Now you can do it!Think..Think. Who could you have worked alongside of at least once, perhaps twice, plus stabbed in the back on one ocassion, so you could either solidify your position at work or got promoted over? (Its ok to deny, thats just being true to yourself) BTW an added bonus: Your "obsession" never worked at the above nor your obsession with Hillary. I found peace awhile back, and I sleep well at night. You seem to go on a rampage every 120 days. Try refraining from threats to manager's sons, and sending emails in the same vanacular. Learn to disagree with someone and let it go. GOOD LUCK THERE!Maybe you could get a guest shot on Dr.Phil. Good luck, but we ain't buddies.ciou

RAY: There you go again. Trying to deflect. FYI...The people i worked with at KITY i never worked with at KZFM. Nice try. Just for the record...Yes i made mistakes at Traffic pulse and i regret what i did and said to some people. I have said some hurtful things to people which i hope they will forgive me for. I'm not perfect and i'll make many more mistakes in the future but i'm trying to be better. It's too bad you have to try and keep that history alive years later. I offered an olive branch to you almost a year ago and you have yet to accept. That's fine. Just don't go slamming me on here and claiming i'm all these aliases you listed. I'm tired of it.

You know we had this little spat on here several years ago. I remember posting that i was tired of you making negative comments about people. (I posted under my REAL name.) While working at Traffic pulse and doing traffic for WBAP, i get a call from one of the higher ups saying he was so glad i posted that about you. He then revealed to me who you are and said you got fired because you were caught writing crap about people using WBAP computers.

As many have told me, i should just ignore you but dammit i'm so tired of your negative mouth and bringing up old stuff. I encourage anyone on here to read the tripe that KPLEXCOMPLEX writes on here. I'm sure most will come away thinking you're very bitter. I'm all for critizing, evaluating, and debating the issues but you go too far. So to use one of your favorite lines...I'm through with you...fire away big boy.

If indeed Ray, you're not KPLEXCOMPLEX, I'm sure the real RAY W. would have posted on here or emailed me personally. Besides, i have undisputable evidence you ARE KPLEXCOMPLEX which i revealed to you in a private email. I wouldn't stoop to your level and post it on a public message board.

I have not been here long, but I made the same observation and noted it a few days ago... In fact, there is a lot of negativity here, but I suppose that goes with the territory...

You're making a good choice to stop now, Jim. It ain't worth it. So often, it's better to turn the other cheek, be the bigger man, and walk away. You're not going to change somebody that easily.

Wow, sniping and fighting. Just like at a real funeral.

How did this digress from remembering Dan Kieley to a B*tch-fest?

I didn't know Dan well but I did work with him for a while. He seemed like a nice man who had been through a lot and was simply trying to do some good with what he had to work with.

Dan wasn't some fallen legend from a far-a-way place. He was a real human being. I hope his son doesn't pop in for a read and have to see this nonsense.

Have a little respect.

OK Jim. Let's straighten out some information here. Your "irrefutable " evidence only exists within you.Not one in the same. I know of Ray,and you have trashed him for many years and even to the point of making threats like you have done to so many others in and out of the work place. You even used his website as a "Nic" and your effort failed. He's doing quite well actually. He NEVER was fired at WBAP "for using computers" He also has several WRITTEN LETTERS OF REFERENCE WITH WBAP LETTERHEAD from there. He left on his own with good relations for another job...period. So to quote your favorite Prez 'There you go again".

2) I never received an email from you, mainly because I have never posted my email address here, nor have I given it to you. So "Your email" to me is another false claim.

3) You misread, not too surprising. I never said in giving you "the clues" that I worked with you at BOTH KZFM,KITY,etc. LOOK closely.."Once, Perhaps Twice".

4) In regards to the "aliases". You're trying to change? Jim,You know exactly what I am referring to here.

5)If you are truly trying to change, then you would not have even bothered to comment on this or any other forum. Bitterness and negativity are something that has accompanied you for a very very long time. You have Talent Jim,that's the killer, yet you talk behind a co-worker(s) back a lot. You use your negativity to bash the competition. You "embellish" or just plain make up stuff to others to demonstrate an innocence that is false. You can live with that I am sure, but it was hurtful to others and it still shows in you today.

6) Like you in one way,I am tired of the "trashing" of really good people and I have stood up to you after awhile, and you can't stand it.

If you are truly trying to change in your negative ways, then show it,and make it real.Accept that others have an opinion, and will not often agree with you. Finally if you don't like my postings <borrowing a phrase>" don't read it.
There's your olive branch Jim. Use wisely.
