Leigh Richards Out At XTU After 25 Years

Just found out that Leigh Richards has left XTU after 25 years. Ken Anderson, who used to do mornings at 95.7 The Wolf in SF is currently filling in. No clue if it is on an interim basis or not.

are you kidding me? Check out the website. Looks like they removed references of Leigh from their WTXU website.

Sorry to hear about Ms. Richards, and hope it's on her terms.

In the meantime, I say...

Jeff Ryan for middays!

He's worked his way up from weekends and swing duty to evening drive - which, as evidenced by the Lias and Delilahs of the world, is a dying breed as far as local radio is concerned. But more importantly, he could most likely hold the female demographics that Leigh drew in middays.

"Has left" - if she left on good terms she'd have done a last show - if that didn't happen, she likely had no choice in the matter.

Leigh Richards was no doubt the longest running country radio personality in Philadelphia history, starting in the waning years of WRCP when it was on AM 1540 only; when they went oldies in 1981 she went to WTTM 920 Trenton (both as Sarah Louise), then went to WFIL in the "Boss Radio" revival & was Joey Reynolds sidekick/foil a short time, then turned up at WXTU middays shortly after their 1984 switch to country. I think she was at WPST 97.5 in the '70's before she was at WRCP.

Wow, this makes no sense. Leigh was really good at her job. I can't fathom why she is out. Another bad decision at XTU. When they gave Scott Evans the boot a year or two ago, that was the beginning of this station's recent decline.

It's called "hey, her salary is too high ... dump her"

Having worked with Leigh and having worked for the Beasley (rhymes with Weasley) family, I'd say that after 25 years, she was, indeed, making too much money. In my experience working for them, I found that dedication, hard work, loyalty and talent count for zero: it's all about the Benjamins, baby. Whoever replaces her, you can bet that they'll be earning half or less of what she made.

I know Leigh reads this board, so, best of luck, Leigh. You're a class act and you have great friends in the industry. You'll be just fine.

could she file an age discrimination suit, or is that a death sentence to never work again in radio? As a Philadelphia native & 30+ year career here, I doubt she'd want to go anywhere else now anyway, although she could do voicetracking for anywhere.

Maybe she'll remain a free agent in the event that someone else in the market flips to country to compete with 92.5... hey, ya never know...

I just talked to Ken Anderson the announcer today; Thurs Dec. 2 at XTU-92.5. He told me that he's on a try-out basis as the mid-day jock at the radio station. I told him that I 'google' his name and found he worked in San Fran. and Cincinnati and he "freaked" out. However, he told me that he worked at an Allentown radio station. Does anyone remember what station that was and exact time.
