Len Mohnkern, longtime radio personality, newsman and station owner, died Saturday in Dallas. He worked for KTER in Terrell, KBOX in Dallas, and has owned KPYK-1570/Terrell with his son Chuck since 1992. He was also the voice of the first and only all-traffic station in DFW, KDMM-1150, in 1997. Services are today (Wed 11/22) in Terrell. andersonclaytonfuneral.com

I wonder if the station is going to change formats now?Len kept it big band was eclectic in the selections. He was a nice guy and one of the "pioneers" (pre McLendon) of DFW radio.

I am really sorry to hear this. His son Chuck is a great guy and has worked at a number of stations around the DFW area - but always kept a hand in over at KPYK.

I hope they keep the format of the station the same. There is something very comforting about being able to tune over and hear real live local radio in a market like this.

Len will be missed. :(

Sad to hear. I stumbled across KPYK back in the days he was running Bo Gritz and Chuck Harder.

Bummer :-[

Yes, my condolences as well. I've visited with Len, his wife and son Chuck. Great people, who are doing radio because they love it. I wish there were more people who have the same motivation.

I'm very sorry to hear of the loss, and hope Chuck keeps the station intact. There is something very refreshing about radio stations that aren't particularly concerned with being "Number One."

This is sad to hear. I used to come in after Chuck when I was a KLLI and run my shift. I enjoyed hearing Chucks take on radio and his stories about his dad and their station. My regards to Chuck and his family.
