I am not gone.
I'm going to begin pod casting soon.
I was shocked by the KGO decision to fire almost all of its talk show hosts. My program was the highest rated show on all of KGO. It also had the best demographics advertisers are looking for. What were they thinking?

I love doing radio. Doing the show is usually the highlight of my day. I am going to begin pod casting my show this week or next. I am just working out the technical details.

People all over the country will be able to call in with their legal problems and stories and I will deal with them from 12:00 to 1:00 every weekday.

In the beginning, as listeners learn to find me on the web, we'll screen calls all day long and make appointments to call back my radio show clients between noon and 1:00. This way, the show will have the live radio feel without commercials (think commercial free radio) and FCC restrictions on my flowery language.

Hey boychik, not a bad idea, but you're going to need to do a looooot of promotion. It's easy to develop the habit of turning on the dial at 1pm (or whenever) and punching the 810 button. Doing your thing over Internet radio is going to require exponentially more effort, imho.

That said, I've enjoyed hearing the shtick of a fellow Bronx boy on my radio box down here on the peninsula, and wish you only mazel. And if you can pull it off, I'll kvell.

That's fantastic news Len. My wife and I listened every day and it'll be great to hear more from you.

Podcasting is hard, but I'm sure you know that. With work you can become extremely successful. I have one little bit of advice, you may want to get in touch with fellow KGO-host and Sonoma resident Leo Laporte. Leo has build a wonderful podcasting network out of Petaluma and he may have some words of wisdom for you.

Hey, Len. I always liked your style, but the unfortunate thing is that so many calls were about nursing homes, wills, trusts, etc., so I could see why Cumulus management might want to ditch your show. I think you'd make an outstanding general talkshow host.

As for podcasting, I dunno, I'd be more inclined to put effort into approaching other stations. You've got the books, you've got the demos. Surely there is a fit somewhere. Podcasting works really well for episodic programming such as "This American Life" and "Radiolab", but I'm not so sure it's workable for a daily show.

Just some ideas here...

Your plan to podcast is a good one. I would definitely subscribe to it, and would be happy to encourage my friends and colleagues to do the same. Where KGO-AM did its listeners a great disservice, you could do exactly the opposite and provide your valuable advice and professional opinions via podcast -- which in my book would be a great service.

Please let us know when you have it ready to go. I suspect you'll still have no shortage of callers to the show...

But I agree. Please find another radio station. Your voice needs to be heard on the air.

P.S. Talked to a young man the other day who could use your guidance. So many people are like him -- unsure of his rights, unsure of how to deal with a grievance and be heard, unsure of being able to separate racial issues from just stupid people doing stupid things that can have legal and criminal consequences. After I read his letter and give him my opinion, I'll point him to your podcast and maybe even to [email protected].
 
Len - I will be looking forward to your internet program. I was listening to you every day during lunch. When you were moved to 1:00, I could not listen every day but did at least 3 days each week so I look forward to your internet 12:00 show.

I have been a KGO listener since 1966 when I was in college. When Mickey Luckoff came on board because the station was failing, things really picked up. KGO is the only station in my house and in my car. This was the stupidest thing that KGO going to All-News. I am board after about 20 minutes because there is so much repeat and speculation. I don't need to hear about 20+ surveys every day.

I hope you and John Rothman who I listened to every evening and constantly in the middle of the night when he was there before, get picked up by another station soon. Good luck. I will be watching for more news from you.

Put it out of Twitter and Facebook. You'll soon get some numbers...

At present streaming only gets big numbers for special events such as benefit concerts with big-name celebrities, etc. Podcasts can get some traction, but talkradio is not podcast material.
 
I like Len's show, but on KKSF, if he's not outright plugging one of his appearances, it's a rerun, and in fact they played the same damn rerun two days in a row. That's just lazy. Are they even doing new shows or is every day a rerun now?

Since the move to KKSF I'd wondered whether he was being paid as a host or whether he's been buying time and running the show as an infomercial. He does seem to spend a large amount of time plugging his "seminars", which are ultimately sales pitches. Plus, he plugs his friends and associates a lot.
 
I'd bet that it's an infomercial. They made the staff cut the news time in the hour to give him more minutes. That's kind of a tip-off.
