I am not gone.
I'm going to begin pod casting soon.
I was shocked by the KGO decision to fire almost all of its talk show hosts. My program was the highest rated show on all of KGO. It also had the best demographics advertisers are looking for. What were they thinking?

Hey, Len. I always liked your style, but the unfortunate thing is that so many calls were about nursing homes, wills, trusts, etc., so I could see why Cumulus management might want to ditch your show.

DavidKaye, If you had listened to Len's show, you would have known he specialized in elderly law, wills and trusts, so that's why they were on that a lot. I didn't care listening to those either, but I had to comment.

I listened to Len's show PLENTY but had to keep tuning away when the topic kept drifting toward the elderly. Len's failure is that he didn't bring in other kinds of law, kinds that more people would be interested in hearing about. This means bringing in GUEST EXPERTS. Look, Gil Gross has been a newsman most of his life, and yet he's always bringing on guests who are specialists in certain subjects. Any good talkshow hosts knows that they are not the sole expert in any given field.

I stand by what I said in that KGO probably tried to manage his show and KKSF let him have totally free range, much to his detriment. The show began to sound like an infomercial when it was on KKSF.

What makes you think it WASN'T an infomercial? Barter.

I had considered this and I think I mentioned it here initially. I doubted that it was an infomercial because he had spot clusters and news and weather within the program. While infomercials may have a newscast as an adjacency, I've never known one to have a newscast embedded within the infomercial, and certainly no outside commercials, especially the stations ROS spots.

Interesting note (maybe not so interesting) is that "News/Talk 910" is now simply "Talk 910", including a new URL as well. That, I believe is a stupid move, unless maybe KGO is getting a cease-and-desist against KKSF. Rebranding is the LAST thing you want to do when you're trying to grow a business.

He had barter spots on KGO, and it's a very good bet that he was not being paid on 910. 910 always retained spot avails and news positions in the informercial hours. On the weekends, it used to be 4 minutes at the top of the hour, plus a couple at the bottom...depending on the deal, a couple of additional clusters of the station's spots.

It's radio...the New Guy always wants to put his imprint on things a bit...that's probably all the rebranding is. Frankly, it makes sense, as they do no news blocks whatsoever...just newscasts in the talk programs.
