Lenders taking over BMP

Inside Radio reporting today that Lenders are taking over operation of BMP stations. I wonder what Landis will do now? I suspect a sell-off or trimming of talent on KTSA, KTFM and their spanish properties...

This was in the making for awhile now. Glad to hear it finally happened. I would suspect Landis and others will soon be out especially with the lack luster performance in the SA cluster.

Lenders make good bagels. I guess we'll find out soon if they make good radio. :D

Seriously, though, I'd hate to see another reduction in hours of local talk radio. :'(

Maybe the first talent to go will be Rikki Ware. Once a week for two hours isn't worth the payroll or health insurance expense and could easily be replaced by more syndicated slop. That golf show that follows Ware will probably go, too. Who listens to AM radio on a Sunday night anyway, especially when the Simpsons are on? Maybe that windbag, 'I'm so glad you called to hear me talk', in the afternoon will be history, too?

Wow at BMP. Now I bet you everyone in that cluster is going to be walking on eggshells since everyone knows that budget cuts are sure to come.

Good luck to all you BMP folks.

That article says they haven't made a debt payment in 2 years. TWO YEARS! And people are freakin' out because CC might miss a payment. WOW. Foreclosure doesn't happen overnight.

BMP did a lot of expansion right before the advertising market collapsed. Timing is everything. It's sad because BMP did alot to reenergize Spanish language radio in Texas. In Austin they took ''La Ley'' to number 1 overall before Univision Radio saw the opportunity in Austin and entered the market.

It was really remarkable that BMP took "La Ley" to No. 1 in the Austin market. Just a note, however, Univision was in the Austin market before BMP. That's why Univision went out and bought 104.3 from CBS in order to compete more effectively with the signal of "La Ley".

Despite BMP having the better of Spanish language FM signals, BMP hasn't been able to put together a morning show that is competitive since Chulo left back in January of 2008.

Allaccess is reporting Larry Patrick of Patrick Communications is rumored to take over as CEO of BMP Radio.

http://www.patrickcommunications.com/

That will bring a degree of cultural misunderstanding to BMP that can certainly be expected to lower the value of the stations even more.

I don't think BMP had an understanding of SA whatsoever.

If Larry Patrick is named the new CEO, I hope he cleans house and brings in some people with new ideas that will make BMP much more competitive than it is now.

SARADIO1----so very true. BMP had a chance to shake things up and they blew it.

What do you mean, "bring in people"? New servers, most likely. The company's broke and has been repo'ed. The cheapest and fastest way for the lenders to get their $$$ back ASAP is syndicated/auto-robotiziced voice-tracked slop like JackFM.

I failed to mention that Larry Patrick is also owner of Legend Communication, a radio cluster in WY. Legend Communications owns 15 stations in Wyoming.

Syndication/auto is better than the crap BMP is currently giving us. Besides, I can't imagine our FM dial getting any worse than it is now.

The problem with BMP is that it was built out of a motley collection of mostly less than full coverage faclities. Their upgrade plans were cut short by the recession, and if major stations have suffered, think what marginal ones have been through.

And Jack, far from being "slop" is a concept. Where it is done well, like KCBS-FM in LA, it is a marvelous, creative, amusing and topical relief from chattering jocks and formulaic liners. It's also one of the top couple of billers in the market.

It does if you're a poor yutz with a house note. Two months you're out!
