You know, you and I are probably closer in our political views than appears here. I agree with the general Democratic views of old... Taking up for labor, making sure the poor, disenfranchised and elderly are taken care of... unfortunately I can not take that final step and vote DEM. I disagree too strongly with the extremism within the leadership of the party. Frankly, they scare me more than the Neocons.

I'll vote independent... probably waste my vote this time on a useless write-in candidate, but at least my concience will be clear.

Hey, you're all right in my book!

Now get some sleep Steve, your hours
> are insane, even by big business republican standards!

Good God yes! I'm averaging 8 hours off duty a day, and even less sleep than that.... No telling when I'll get my evenings back but not for the next little while anyway.... Maybe by the Fall book? LOL. Thanks for the concern... and yes, I'm off to bed now.

P.S.... I'm lovin every minute of it! Guess I'll call Tripp tonight to harass him haha...

Re: Okay, it's throwdown time.

No anger here, don't flatter youself! Just trying to clarify some misinformaton on your part which I feel I did. I don't come to this board very often because I'm usually too busy to bother with it but when I'm told about inaccurate and misinformed statements being made by someone who can only guess about what's going on at 680, I feel it's a service to the readers of this board to know the truth... which is something that as moderator of this board, you should welcome.....now on to more important aspects of my life!

I will say firstly that I was privledged to work with Mike during my time @ WREC, and that I count Mike as one of the smartest people I've ever met.

I will also say that I can NOT respect anyone's political views that spends 75% of their show bashing Shelby County and Memphis City Gov't and DOESN'T EVEN LIVE HERE!!! He is a resident of Tipton County.

I try not to listent to talk radio in any form or fashion, as there is nothing on the dial that really interests me that much...but I will say I got my first taste of the Savage Nation the other night...while I don't agree with his politics, his "in your face" approach was in some ways refreshing.

Re: Okay, it's throwdown time.

> No anger here, don't flatter youself!

Oh, not flattered at all. But I do expect (and I don't know why) someone in your position to be a bit more 'adult' about things. Here I am just a part time jock and you... getting so upset that you have to call me names and question my knowledge of this business. I certainly don't claim to know it all, but this forum is here to exchange ideas an opinions. I wrote my opinion, and it hit something, didn't it. No, don't flatter yourself, "Dewey", this wasn't about you or your cluster. I'm not so vain. If I wanted to slam you or your stations, I would have done it four years ago.

YOU WROTE:
> I don't
> come to this board very often because I'm usually too busy

> misinformed statements being made by someone who can only

The truth? Perhaps I should mention that you didn't HEAR on 680 that Leon Grey was going to start on Monday... you SCHEDULED him to start on Monday. How about a little truth in advertising, or is that too foreign a concept to you? Um, YOU started this thread, remember?

Just remember, you may think a lot of negative things about me, but everybody here knows who I am, what station I work for and I attach my name to every post, so what I say is at my own risk. I don't hide behind a fake name... I'm all about honesty. You?

So, okay, this was fun. Truce. You don't worry about what I post on my forum, and in turn, I simply won't post about the radio stations in your cluster.
______________

Like fish in a barrel...

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050725/lam108.html?.v=16

The link you see above, is a good one. I highly encourage everyone to read it. Read it entirely, please... This link will show you that indeed, "numbers don't lie". One glance at this, (apparently all it took to be posted here.) shows that, the numbers DON'T LIE, they present solid proof, that Rush, is indeed continuing to beat Liberal talkers. However, when you read further, you then discover this is not a "News Story", it's a press release, from Premiere Radio Networks!!!
Having seen that, I read further, and I still see, that Rush is handily beating Liberals in each example given. NO real doubt here.

Although, it seems these 4 cities are the determining factor. Premiere cites excellent examples from each of these 4 cities, with a certain zeal. Apparently, other cities, that Rush and Al would compete with each other, and which surveys for spring are already in play, like New York City, Los Angeles, Portland, etc. don't seem to be included here, strangely enough? I wonder why, they forgot those cities?

Also, as Premiere points out that in Boston, Jerry Springer's program ratings are nill... (Pause for effect...)

Sadly, Premiere forgot entirely that they own a conservative leaning show in the same slot, called the Glenn Beck program, (a show I love so much, I am an "INSIDER", seriously!) and Glenn's success is not listed here at all, But a dig on Jerry Springer's show certainly was! Problem with that is, Premiere radio, last I heard, was a Clear Channel entity.

Clear Channel OWNS the Springer program! Wow, that's "objective" Premiere, tell me more!

Well, I did some checking, and found out that Glenn Beck indeed, has two affiliates in the "ALL IMPORTANT 4". He does indeed get carried in Frisco, on KNEW 910, and at WTNT 570 in Washington D.C.. However, Premiere, forgot all about this. As Glenn would say, it's just "another isolated incident".

As much as the gentle readers would love to summarize the success of "Liberal Talk" from this scathing, investigative piece, filled with damaging evidence, there's this sticky point called the TRUTH! Posting a Premiere Press Release, to usurp the demise of Liberal talk, is literally handing me material, and I think "Desechado" will appreciate it too! (JERRY SPRINGER IS GOD!) Being this board's token liberals is tough! Things like this are inspiring, thanks, and chill a Killian's Red for me. (Still not making cheap Kool Aid Comment, after reading a pitcher full of it!) Sorry, not a fish here.

I DID read it all the way through, which is why I posted the link without further comment.

Re: Like fish in a barrel...

Aaah, now here's a chance for me to take up for the Liberal side. I will cite the Boston example of where Rush, et al is beating the snot out of AAR. The trouble with numbers, whether used by Premiere networks or a legitimate ratings institution, is twofold:

First, the format has been on in Boston for less than a year. Nobody can expect Rush to be toppled, even in a bastion of liberalism like Boston, in one year.

Second, and much more importantly, Clear Channel introduced AAR to the market on two POOR signals. 1200 WKOX and 1430 WXKS. Rush and all the conservative talk is on 680 WRKO - ironically, an ENTERCOM station! Now, prior to AAR, WKOX was at the bottom of the barrel so to speak, running leased ethnic programming... so they had virtually no audience. WXKS-AM had been airing the Music of your Life satellite feed, and had real numbers. Trouble is, while they can be heard okay during the day, after dark both stations might as well turn off the transmitters.

Add to that, there is an FM talker on 96.9 - WTKK, which airs a mix of talk shows and holds its own in the market.

Sometimes, while the numbers don't lie, they also don't tell the whole story.
______________

"There on to me!" I would love to do talk radio. I like your input on the Boston thing too. To me, it seems silly at all to think Rush will lose listeners to Liberal talk at all. Liberal talk has to stand on it own two feet, to get numbers, and since the "own two feet" is often a new concept... CFKane
