Les Moonves = out of his mind

I don't know what Les Moonves is thinking based on his recent decisions. His lawsuit against Howard Stern is a joke, and his recent merge with WB is suspect at best.

Anyone want to take a bet, how long until Les will be fired? My guess...I give him 11 months

What Moonves has going for him is that a number of CBS TV programs are in the top ten, which generates plenty of revenue for the company.

While CBS attracts older demographics, the WB has a number of programs that caters to a younger audience. Smallville is just one example. So from a business standpoint merging CBS and the WB isn't a bad idea.

Even if Sumner Redstone drops the ax on Moonves, I’m sure that Moonves has a golden parachute in his contract where he will walk away with a severance package worth millions of dollars. So do you think he's losing any sleep at night?

Howard on Letterman this Monday! Look out Les!

Right, I guarantee that is Les' mindset, which proves what a lousy executive he really is. I can't wait to see Howard Stern rip the guy on his own network this Monday on Letterman! This was a lose-lose situation for Moonves, and the team of Stern and Buchwald are up 1-0 in this "game."

You have got to love how Letterman just doesn't give a damn about "the suits." He'll let Stern come on his show (as he has in the past) to bad-mouth the people running the network that he's on.

But Dave wasn't Stern's sock puppet either, challenging him on a number of his assertions and pointing out accurately that whatever his merits or demerits in managing a radio group or a news operation, Moonves is a highly skilled daytime and prime time entertainment programmer and has succeeded in that role.

That really is the situation. Les Moonves understands daytime and prime time entertainment TV, and runs those very important parts of CBS Inc. very well. What he needs to do is admit he doesn't know everything, and find people with better judgment in the specific areas of radio programming and news to run his radio and news divisions.

The recent changes in the news division give you reason to expect better in the future (although hiring Katie Couric as principal anchor would be a backward step if he takes it, since it isn't a job that plays to her strengths). But radio isn't part of his background, and looking at what's happening to the radio division, it shows. He needs to get better leadership for that division to avoid future debacles like Stern's departure and the fiascos of Jack and Free-FM.

Re: Howard on Letterman this Monday! Look out Les!

The problem is that Les hired a bean counter named Joel Hollander to run the radio division. Since taking over, Hollander's leadership has been a nightmare. He knew that Stern would be leaving for well over a year, and only developed some half-assed replacement plan which lost a ton of money.

It didn't take a genious to understand that David Lee Roth wasn't going to be much of a hit on the radio.

Les needs to step aside and hire someone better to run everything. He'll be a laughing stock once they suit gets thrown out of court.
