Less INFOMERCIALS on Hallmark and ION

Both The Hallmark Channel and ION will be reducing the amount of infomercials they will be showing. Starting Monday September 27th Hallmark will be airing Who's the Boss? 4AM-6AM replacing 2 hours of infomercials.

Also starting Monday October 2nd ION will be programming 12AM-1AM 7 nights/week and 1PM-3PM Saturdays and Sundays. More episodes of their current programming will be airing in the additional time slots.

Guess the sales contracts for those time slots expired, and economic conditions being what they are they haven't been able to resell them. Give it a month.

Hallmark also reclaimed the 8AM ET hour earlier in the summer...changing it from infomercials to another hour of "Golden Girls" re-runs.

In Dallas/Fort Worth, a couple of weeks ago, Tribune's KDAF 33 became infomercial-free 24/7 weekdays replacing early morning infomercials with reruns of "Roseanne" and "Bewitched." Other than a few paid programs Sunday morning, KDAF is totally infomercial free now. Fox-owned KDFW 4 is also now free of infomercials weekdays.

Maybe some channels are seeing if running something instead of being the one of 75 local broadcast or cable outlets running infomercials in the middle of the night or early morning might generate more viewers even at those hours.

I think this has to do more with the laws of diminishing demand. With so many channels (local and national) doing the infomercial thing it comes down to how many Sham-Wows, JetSprays, etc., you can actually sell to an audience (who would watch them anyway!) before you reach a diminishing demand whether Guthy-Renker or Time-Life has bought the time from the station or whether the infomercials are being run on a "per inquiry" basis with the station running the ad getting a cut of every piece of doubled the item $19.99 order they sell.

I have also thought the same of how much "colon blow" radio stations can sell during overnight hours.

That was the strange thing. For the longest time Hallmark was programming the network 8AM-3AM with Infomercials airing 3AM-8AM. Then they added the 3AM-4AM hour with the infomercial block extended to 9AM. Then they cut an hour off and began programming the 8AM-9AM hour once again.

Bad economy = less disposable income = less crap being sold on TV = less demand for airtime.

Plus they need to find the "next big thing" that will grab the public's attention
now that Billy Mays is gone.

I will believe it when I see it with Ion Television. They need to start acquiring more shows, as well as more seasons of shows they already have in their library. While Ion Life shows no actual infomercials, their programming lineup is that stale. How many times can they continue to show the same episodes of Hometeam, Design U, She's Crafty, Gen's Guiltless Gourmet, Home Delivery, and other shows, plus the same movies that also air on Ion Television? Both Ion Television & Ion Life are disgraces.

The Sham Wow guy is gonna lose his job? Say it isn't so ;D

Don't make the Shamwow spokesman angry. You really won't like him when he's angry. ::)
