I remember in 2001 how fascinating it was to me when stations would actually drop their regular programming to play all holiday music. It seemed like such a radical thing to do. Then the next few years it was interesting that in several markets multiple stations went all-holiday. Plus there was some kind of shock value in how early stations made the Christmas. This would get tons of criticism from radio-info posters yet the ratings came back huge year after year.
This is the first year I have lost complete interest in the subject. Several weeks ago I responded on the Chicago board about this topic, I seemed to be the only one that thought it would be a good idea for WLIT to get in the holiday spiit as early as possible. But ever since then I have skipped over all Christmas music threads and news stories. To me it's a no-brainer...several stations go all holiday, normally the same stations as the year before and at the same exact time. Then the ratings come back and these stations generally do great. It's become routine to the point where it's not a news item to me but business as usual. Has anybody else lost interest in the subject?
