Less jazz on K-JAZZ

Starting tonight, KJZZ is replacing their great jazz programming with BBC World Service from 1-3 AM weekdays and 12-6 AM weekends.

That eliminates about 25% of my local radio listening. For me, it's online more and more. No knock on the BBC as a programming service (it's an improvement over the uber-boring NPR), but I really liked the jazz programming on KJZZ. It will still be on between 8 PM and 1 AM (for now?) and a couple of hours on weekends. Bob Coratore's blues show on Sunday nights will still be there.

Keith,I was going to refer you to HD2 for Kjzz style jazz as it was all jazz all the time,
but now I think they changed their format as I listened today they have a different style format.
Go figure... ???

OK this now whats on KJZZ HD2: Triple A (adult album alternative) service produced by WXPN and distributed by NPR. It features an eclectic blend of blues, rock, world, folk, and alternative country.

Interesting move...

HD....what? ;D

Maybe that would work for the dozen or so people with HD radios (and who does have the most listeners in metro Phoenix - all HD stations combined or Lumberyard 1440? My guess is the latter), but for me it's online or nothing if I want Jazz overnights or Blues anytime but Sunday nights.

Fortunately, JazzWorks (the program that KJZZ cancelled) is available online here.. Other good ones are WDCB Glen Ellyn/Chicago and WBGO Newark/NYC.

You guys are missing out. The best HD radio investment would be for in the car. Only between $100-$200 for a decent one.

I don't think I'm missing out on anything, since most of the Phoenix HD2 feeds (along with almost every other station in the world if they're streaming) are available via my smartphone and the TuneIn & iHeartRadio apps. Works 10 times better, although there are occasional 3G dropouts when driving up 48th St. through the Point.

I've tried HD radios a few times, and I decided that they're not even worth $10, let alone $100. HD stands for "Highly Dead." ;D

Actually, the people who miss out are those who expect KJZZ staff to actually listen and *consider* all the cool music being played on All Things Considered and Weekend Edition and then PLAY IT on non-NPR time. I don't get the logic of that. The only time KJZZ is listenable is when it's on a syndicted show? That makes no sense whatsoever. Why can't KJZZ be more like KCRW?
