* KVET 98.1 FM Austin, TX Country/Classic Country - Good station, second to KASE.

I see you haven't listened closely enough to these stations because KLJA 107.7 FM has not been Spanish Pop for almost a year now :-\ They are also Reg Mex.

Why is the 92.1 K-Love "Ok... but could be better" and the 106.3 K-Love a "good K-Love station" when they are simulcasting?

Also why ignore the non-comms. They are certainly competing for listeners.

Worst evaluation EVER! LOL! :D

Have you even listened to each station in the last 3 years?

KAJA boring personalities? LOL!!!! KZEP Crap? LOL!!!
KBBT's numbers doing good? LOL!!!
KCYY the best? LOL!!!

The rest of your "evaluation" is laughably juvenile.

i would have to somewhat agree. Wild949austin's evaluation was pretty harsh.

maybe they should have oldies 92.5 changed to a format similar to the old hawk in the late 90's
kahk 107.7 georgetown-austin. rock classics 60's-80's some 90's. bob 103.5 comes close.

Isn't 103.7 in San Antonio KAHL-FM. They used to be KMFR-FM. I don't think they call themselves a translator station like Austin's 99.7 FM simulcast of KLBJ-AM.

And

I haven't heard of 102.3 in San Antonio. Do you mean 103.1? I know there is a station for sale on the 102.3 and 103.3 dial out in the neighboring counties, KSAG, and KSAQ. Atascosia County I believe or somewhere out there.

I agree with your findings on KONO and KKMJ. Though I listen to KKMJ only on weekends (except when Delilah's on)

102.3 is a low powered station heard inside 410.

Actually, 102.3 is a translator (K272EK) operating illegally without a main relay station. It's basically a pirate radio station under the umbrella of a translator license hoping not to get caught or noticed. It's owned by Gerald Benavides AKA Claro Communications, LTD. AKA B Coummunications Joint Venture.

He'd be happy if all the stations flipped to dance.

Me too but leave 1 for 70's music, leave 1 for Urban Oldies, and 3 Rock stations (1 for Active Rock, 1 for Alternative and 1 for Classic Rock)

The main relay station is KJMA 89.7 Floresville, Texas. Previous call sign was KWCB. KWCB used to be the call letters before KRIO 94.1 which used to be on 101.1 long before becoming KFAN 101. Probally meaning K Western Country Broadcasting. They are a legal translator according to the FCC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KJMA

It is definitely not a legal translator. Benavides bought the translator from Community Public Radio, Inc. When they owned the translator they may have been translating KJMA but ever since Benavides bought it he has been programming a Regional Mexican format on it. KJMA is a religious radio station owned by La Promesa Foundation. I can tell you this, KJMA is not programming or playing music by Banda El Recodo, Intocable, or Los Rieleros del Norte. Just run out to your car and put it on 89.7 and then flip to 102.3...you'll hear that it's not translating KJMA.

Here is the purchase agreement:

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS_Attachment/getattachment.jsp?appn=101269486&qnum=5030&copynum=1&exhcnum=1

Here is the consumation notice:
https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/cdbsmenu.hts?context=25&appn=101290325&formid=905&fac_num=143204

The license is under the name Alicia Benavides. (I'm guessing that's his wifes name?) But if you look at the address, phone number, and email address on the consumation, they belong to Gerald Benavides (based on all his other FCC applications)

No main staion exists for K272EK...at least not in real life.

K272EK is translating a TV station on Channel 6. KFLZ-CA, a low powered analog. They are located on the same tower. Techinically not a radio station.

Bending of the rules like this is pretty desperate.

I heard a liner on 102.3 mention 88.7 or was it 87.7? Is that the new primary station?

It was 87.7

Gerald Benavides also owns KFLZ-CA here in San Antonio. He has a construction permit to go to channel 6 and even though its not licensed to cover yet, he's been broadcasting on channel 6 for way over a year now. He leases the station out to a Spanish Religious group. He somehow figured if he ID'd the translator with 87.7 as a main station (even though it doesn't even translate it) it would make him appear to be a little more legal but in reality it makes him look more illegal since you're not allowed to relay the audio of TV on a FM translator.

Not that I'm defending Benavides' behavior or anything, but maybe he thinks it's all right since the FCC approved an STA application which contained a request for displacement from Channel 7. That was because of purported interference from KTBC Austin, but you're right. The FCC apparently isn't up to speed on this one; they granted the STA over two years ago but they should be asking why Benavides hasn't applied for a license to cover.

Exactly right, but as demonstrated in numerous situations he apparently doesn't allow facts or rules to get in his way.

I have been picking up 87.7 in SA. Originally it was La Z and it was also broadcast on 102.3. I guessed it was 102.3's main station, but then the station flipped to Spanish and English Christian music and 102.3 still programmed the "La Z" format with the liners still saying "87.7." It was like they forgot to make new ones.

In Febuary 2011, K272EK started simulcasting KROB-AM out of Corpus Christi and is still doing that now.

I guess Gerald thinks it's legal to simulcast 102.3 with KROB. 102.3 is a translator.

Non-comms are allowed to feed out-of-market translators and full power stations. Without that loophole we wouldn't have CSN, K-Love and Family Radio nationwide.
