Let us not forget the obvious....

Remember...KBIG and Movin' now share the same demo and since Rick Dees is now on as well, "Big Country 104" sounds like a winner to me. Bulls@#t!? Just wait.

and CC sure enjoys using "BIG" in identifying their country properties: BIG Country 1027 Fresno...The BIG 98 WSIX Nashville...(at their launch) The BIG 965 KBKO Bakersfield...etc

If anyone knew how WSIX came to be called "The Big 98"...and I do...
they wouldn't ID their station with it! Blame Gerry House...

True, Movin' and KBIG share a lot of the same audience, and CC having prospects of losing a big chunk off an already low rated station, might opt to keep a 1.5 to 2.5 or so share that Country would generate. Plus, with KYSR showing promise of turning around, it seems more logical to blow up 104.3. The pieces fit.

Reasons why I would flip KYSR:

(1) KBIG bills better than KYSR.

(2) KYSR's signal is better suited to Country (does a nice job of covering the Santa Clarita Valley)

(3) KBIG is much more palatable to a Hispanic audience - which is more important in the long term.

(4) Country has traditionally had a small Hispanic cume - and the overall cume is limited. KBIG's signal is too huge to waste on Country.

(5) If KMVN hurts KBIG - you can always add more pop songs from KYSR if you blow it up and make KBIG more of a traditional Hot AC rather than a rhythmic Hot AC and have the best of both worlds.

(6) KYSR had one good month - which was unweighted - and was oversampled in their strong zips.

(7) KBIG's brand has been around a lot longer.

The pieces sure do fit. I wonder if HollywoodFM has access near to an inner sanctum, he/she seems to know something. If it turns out that no FM wants country then it could end up on an AM. Not many choices there - Salem owns some of the talk shows on 870 so I would omit them. 1190? No. KHJ? Yup! Spanish language music is pretty much an FM thing today. It's the only AM that could have country. I like K-BIG as the most likely to go country.

LA sells more Country CDs than any other Market. KBIG has the calls, signal and CC has the resources to deliver "Big Country!" KHJ Country? Been there, tried that. I mean that literally!

Yes...the meetings are happening, but, as you all well know, things do change. As for an AM...within the next few weeks there will be one that gets it's feet wet. Have a great weekend everyone.

I don't see CC taking back EVERYBODY from KZLA and sticking them on 98.7. One or two of the former station's talent perhaps plus Blair Gardner's show. And isn't Richard Blade a recent hire for the station?

Now let's look at KBIG. Charlie Tuna would make a great fit for a Country Music morning show. Heck, wasn't he part of KLAC when they were still country? As a matter of fact, I think most of the current KBIG airstaff would be right at home with Country. The mixers will go to KIIS, STAR, or KBIG HD. They don't even have to hire a new "voice" for BIG 104 COUNTRY. The only real investment they'd be making is in a music library.

So there it is......KBIG flips.

No, the library could be loaded into NexGen in a few hours...at no cost.
I think this is all wishful thinking...

I had to look back for this post...
Found it in the original KZLA GOES DANCE AND DEES thread.

Oh my God! The rednecks are out tonight...

Wouldn't it be smarter to take KRTH and make it country? It seems to me they've got the dial position and the oldies format is dying...right along with the listeners.
