Let's bicker about KLU again.

This is from an AllAccess job ad:

"ONCE IN A LIFETIME DREAM GIG
An unusual opening has presented itself at programming driven, classic hits, WKLU / Indianapolis. [EDIT]"

Russ says "6 spots an hour...NEVER MORE."

I'm not sure where the last discussion left off, but here it is in writing.

Because you'd NEVER take a gig like this more than ONCE in a lifetime!

Against all odds, this NON CORPORATE, personality / rock station is consistently in the top 5 / 25-54 and has been for 2 years. Your on the air latitude is only limited by your own imagination.

And ability to read cue cards WORD FOR WORD with NO ad libbing!

You can finally work at a station where programming counts, and is RESPECTED...not tolerated

Get a top 10 AOR list from any year from 1960 to 1990 and THAT'S the programming?

ONE WORD - "FREEBIRD"

All respect on this end was lost when I heard that song on KLU's air.

THAT'S PROGRAMMING???? NO - That's AUTOMATED programming - why even have pd's or jocks there?

You can tell it is a "pea-shooter" signal. Their HD signal doesn't come in well at home in Carmel. I put a modulation monitor up and they are still way over modulating. When I drive by their transmitter site over by Ben Davis, I get all kinds of spurious emmissions (not to be confused with nocturnal). If and when the commission ever decides to visit, they will get nailed.

I get all the other Class A signals in the metro that are running HD in Indy just fine at home. I've got a fairly decent HD radio.

Pea Shooter!!!! Are you kidding???? They may be licensed for low power. But is 4KW their real power?
I was on I-65 just north of Louisville and I could not get WFBQ, WNOU, or WZPL.
But, WKLU was comming in loud and clear.
Many stations no longer run their power as licensed by the FCC, because they can turn it down by remote control if the FCC shows up.
Just wondering?

As a ENG, I have to differ... This is not a rimshot.. If you look on the FCC database.. Their 4,000 watts at 110 meters (358.71 feet above average terrain) has a 60 dbu over 85 to 90% of Marion County... Their marketbale 48 dbu makes them a metro signal of subtance... Just an engineering obersvation...

Notice that I didn't say rimshot. I said peashooter. Because they are running 10% of the ERP for the HD stuff, alot of the digital content ends up in the yard...not in the house on my reciever.

And when you call the station a peashooter or rim shot it usually gets a rise out of the owner or current general manager (or shall I say current monkey on the launch pad)

can't play more spots if you can't sell more spots!

If they want my listenership, all I ask is 30 more minutes a day of FREEBIRD and PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE!

I finally broke down and submitted an Ultimate Top 10. I picked a lot of the artists they play but I haven't heard many of the songs on their station. One of their djs told me a few weeks ago if you don't pick whats on the playlist there's a good chance yours won't get picked. That's not really an Ultimate Top 10 then is it? Oh well it will be interesting to see if I ever get chosen. Anyone on here ever done one? If so how was it?

My dad and I were talking about the Ultimate Top 10 when I was back in Indy for Easter weekend. He wants to submit one. I had an idea for one...

...but it would require a Ramones song... ;)

But shouldn't WXNT still continue to have Abdul in the morning? What about WXNT?!

Can Abdul speak spanish? Or can he sell christian talk programming? That's about the only job security I see on the horizon for XNT personnel.

I'd say if you think you're safe from FCC scrutiny because you have the transmitter power control connected to the remote control, you are living on borrowed time. The FCC will come to town and run field measurements for power & modulation BEFORE they come knocking on your door. Good luck to you, Russ.
