LET'S CHANGE NEW YORK'S AM DIAL TOO.

I know some of these proposed changes are just a pipe dream, but what's wrong with dreaming?

570: Sounds nice and reaches thie target. NY needs a Christian station like WMCA.

710: Although not doing well with numbers, it's still needed and they're doing respectively well in ad revenues.

770: No changes.

880: Ditto.

970: They could bring back some Contemporary Christian music to their programming. WAWZ doesn't reach parts of Long Island.

[glow=red,2,300]1130: If only the original WNEW-AM could be resurrected, an MOR/AC in 2006 would do better in numbers than what's on now.

1560: There is a market for Country. A Country station on this frequency may not set the AM dial on fire with ratings, but a low 2 share would be a respectable number.

Thanks,

I suppose a lot of listener-friendly changes could be made in most markets, but your bringing up the AM dial is interesting... I believe there is room for WBBR 1130 AM as it stands. Yes, it's mainly branding for its national network, but the World Business Hub should have an on-the-ball business station like WBBR.
As far as country on 1560AM, it would seem that the music is more suited for the FM dial as long as its promoted well enough to compete.
710 is strange. WOR seems to not know what they are doing and where they're going, but if they are making the $$ now, it seems to satisfy the ownership. The leadership needs more foresight: What will WOR be in 5 years when more of the Hamburg, etc. audience dies off?

Back to 1560AM -- what about 50s-60s oldies? That seems to be a decent fit for a struggling AM and would fill a big hole in NYC radio.

Interesting.....very interesting.

570 (WMCA) - Dead on!
660 (WFAN) - Don't even DARE touch this station!
710 (WOR) - Agreed, it does serve a purpose even if things are dropping off
770 (WABC) - Leave it alone
830 (WNYC) - Break off the simulcast with 93.9 and make it a "C-SPAN" format for New York (similar to the channels 71-74).
880 (WCBS) - Leave it alone
970 (WWDJ) - I am not that familiar with CCM but if Kevin feels it is needed, then I say go for it.
1010 (WINS) - Leave it alone
1050 (WEPN) - As much as I am into sports, they could NEVER EVER beat WFAN. Heck, put country music back here! Get the calls WWHN and there ya go!
1130 (WBBR) - I gotta say, they give good traffic reports
1190 (WLIB) - Maybe Gospel will work out....so I'll wait on this one
1280 (WADO) - Serves the Latino population well with news
1330 (WWRV) - They get the funds from Latinos somehow to keep the religious base
1380 (WKDM) - Bad signal at night, but I suppose it could do something else.
1480 (WZRC) - Arthur Liu....'nuff said
1560 (WQEW) - Perhaps the oldies would work there. Then again, as long as Disney can shell funds, Radio Disney ain't goin nowhere!
1600 (WWRL) - See how long Air America will last...

Make one station country, one true rock station, and one pure dance station.

A more realistic view of AM in NYC

710 (WOR) - Agreed, it does serve a purpose even if things are dropping off

The Yankees' radio contract is up after this year. Don't be surprised if WOR bids for it -- that way WOR can get rid of O'Reilly and Savage.

770 (WABC) - Leave it alone

Uncertain as Citadel is taking over 77. If I were the GM at 77, I'd drop Limbaugh and use the money to get the Yankees back.

830 (WNYC) - Break off the simulcast with 93.9 and make it a "C-SPAN" format for New York (similar to the channels 71-74).

The AM side of WNYC is on 820 and is not a simulcast.

1050 (WEPN) - As much as I am into sports, they could NEVER EVER beat WFAN.Heck, put country music back here!Get the calls WWHN and there ya go!

You want it that bad? Go to Disney corporate and ask them. They'll tell you GTFO.

1560 (WQEW) - Perhaps the oldies would work there. Then again, as long as Disney can shell funds, Radio Disney ain't goin nowhere!

See the comment re 1050.

No one 'needs' a religious radio station. You have respective places of worship. Why should the rest of us who don't want to hear that fiction have to endure it?

570 - If Bloomberg wants a radio station so badly give him this one
620 - If Radio Disney wants a radio station so badly give them this one.
660 - Leave it alone
710 - There's only 2 two things worth listening to on this station. Joy Browne and Joey Renyolds.
770 - Leave it alone
880 - Leave it alone
930 - Korean
970 - Contemporary Christian Music
1010 - Leave it alone
1050 - Country
1130 - Oldies 1959-1974
1190 - leave it as gospel
1280 - Leave it alone
1330 - If ESPN wants a station so badly give them this one.
1380 - Spaish Oldies
1430 - ESPN Deportes
1480 - Chinese
1560 - A mix of Adult Standards, Big Bands, Soft AC, Jazz, Swing
1600 - Regaee Music and other music from the Islands of the Caribbean
1660 - Tourist Informaion Radio

Lots of people would tune in to hear a pure format like dance or rock!

570 - wmca music 1955 thru 1970 just like the old days
620 - wsnr talk station jersey issues etc...
660 - wfan same but get rid of some Met talkies/fans they got to many.
710 - WEPN moves here as espn radio
770 - same
880 - same
970 - same
1010 - moves to 10.1 FM as WINS-FM and becomes WINS CBS Radio Network talkie
1050 - move WQEW here as standards.
1130 - WYBB Sports talkie except Yankees own and gives us Yankee Baseball, Fox Sports Radio etc...
1560 - move WBBR here, there audience is north of the city and that is where the signal goes so well.
