Cab, good question. People do not rock the boat anymore.
One would think WFNX would take advantage of the lull, hire some
creative people, and go on an all out blitz to get numbers - but, alas,
to quote you - status quo status quo - no one playing "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" either.
Haven't you noticed the hiring policies? Complacency wins out over talent - check out WZLX. The entire crew can put you to sleep - the only thing that gives a jolt is the weekend jocks when they are loud and over-anxious because, golly - gee - we're on the radio.
So - if you kiss the backside of the powers that be, don't call them on anything THEY might be doing wrong - don't dare give any advice (unless it is in private so the higher ups can steal it from you) - you might have a gig.
This doesn't lend itself to great radio or creativity. It is only when PDs and GMs give the green light on a Metco fiasco from Dennis & Callahan, or BCN allowing an afternoon jock to be rude to the owner of The Herald is there anything of note. And even that is orchestrated.
Notice how it has slid over into the media. Clea Simon hasn't rolled up her shirtsleeves for a story in ages. Just send her a press release and worry if you made a typo because she won't correct it - it will go in exact.
Dean Johnson resigned, and so it's all up to the internet.
Parklane's anger is far more interesting than ANYTHING on RKO. I think they should re-hire him and put him on the air.
It will give this board a much needed break. Then y'all will just have to contend with me.
