Let's Play "Radio God"........

Found this on the SF board:

http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=187980.0

Interesting post. (Gotta love the SF board, at least imagination is tolerated....)

So if YOU had omnipotent power over the Seattle/Tacoma radio dial....

What would it look like?

What would it SOUND like?

What stations would come back?

What stations would be brand new?

What stations would be changed/rearranged?

Let the mudfight imagining begin.......

First I would eliminate all radio stations north of Seattle. (Because there aren't enough listeners to support them all.)

Allow me to save the select group of parrots here the trouble..

All music stations would be on AM only.

Bring back all the DJs from the Seattle-Tacoma area circa 1950 through 80's who are literally dead, or who's careers are figuratively dead and give them all fifteen minute shifts once a week.

All stations would play every song from every era ever produced by every artist with no repeats. And the music for each daypart would be selected by drunk or stoned college students.

All political talk stations would be holding only discussions of important relevant political issues such as UFOs and legalization of pot.

There would be no religion allowed, nor any discussion of religion on the radio.

Station owners would be blue collar workers with two million watt transmitters.

When a listener selects any radio station one only hears exactly what they want when they want it, with no repeats..

There! I suspect that pretty much covers it. ::)

K-SCOTT liners: 1) "none of the hits, all the time"
2) "deep album cuts, from the obscure, and unknown"

laugh it up boys....

but, i do like that "parrot" word you work into every guru and radio TV posting. ive actually worked "parrot" into some of my daily vernacular with the uneducated blue collar boys.

TVradioguru.......you are an angry bitter man. Can't you just answer the question, and tell us what you'd like to see done differently? Or, if you think all the stations are doing everything correctly, say that you think all the stations are doing everything correctly, and that you'd change nothing. Instead, you gave a lame sarcastic remark. ::)

Actually, about half of TVradioguru's ideas are fine with me, except resurrecting the dead.

Biggest difference is that religion programming should reflect the NW regional hippy contingent. :)

Music sounds SO much better on AM with good processing and 150% positive modulation.
I never knew TVradioguru was actually aware that AM is better for music than FM. I'm impressed.
Move all talk, sports and news to FM, what a great idea.

From the purely disenfranchised view of one who finds radio mostly carefully steers around what I like,
I'd also like to get the majority of foreign language formats back on the SW where they were once,
so there'd a place for the all-civil-war songs stations, the polka stations, and the all-sea-shantie stations,
the all 1920s-30s hot swing and jazz stations, all Be-Bop stations, all-doo-wop stations, all-garage-rock stations,
bluegrass stations, all-show-tune stations, all 70s disco stations, all-classic contry stations,
old time radio stations, all-opera stations, all-classical-music stations, and a few more that play some of each of the above.
I'm sure I forgot a few genres in there, but as long as we're dreaming, how about a concerted effort to
break the herd mentality in formatting?

DUDE! I LIKE YOUR VISION.....Keep it up!

If I ran the Seattle AM/FM market, here's what it would look like

AM

570: KVI (Oldies)
No 630...have enough religious stations here, even though I am a Christian
710: KIRO (News)
770: KTTH would go back to KXA and likely be talk or another music format
No 820
850: Go back to KHHO's Top 40 format in the 70s, or try KH2O News/Talk again.
880: KIXI stays the same
950: KJR (Channel 95 brought back)
1000: KOMO (All-News, like it is now)
No 1050
1090 would go back to KING and likely News/Talk like it was back in the 80s
1150's call would be KEZX (wasn't it?)
No 1210
Don't need KWYZ/KSUH, only for the Korean immigrants
1250: KKFX and back to the old early 80s style format
1300: KMPS, probably simulcasting 94.1 like they did a long time ago
No 1360
1380: KRKO (News for Snohomish County)
1460: KARR as a Mexican and not Harold Camping's end of the world predictions, as you know, he failed several years ago with that
1590: KZOK and Z-Rock brought back
1600: Take over KVRI and change it down south back to K-JET!

FM
92.5 back to Classy KLSY
93.3 adds more 80s/90s stuff to the hip hop
94.1 stays the same
94.9 stays the same
95.7 stays the same, but bring back the Lost 45s!
96.5 revive KXRX and put Crow & West (if they are still around) back on
97.3 revive KBSG
98.1 stays the same
98.9 revive Smooth Jazz! Only my opinion, but the new format is a clone of KPLZ/KMTT combined, as well as maybe Alice @ 97.3 in SF.
99.9 say bye bye to all talk 18 hrs a day, go back to 24 hr music KISW
100.7 stays the same
101.5 stays the same, but try more of a Rhymthic AC
102.5 stays the same
103.7 stays the same
104.5 will still be looking for a buyer :p
105.3 stays the same but a little more religious preaching, especially at church hours Sundays. Remember when they were KBIQ and served "From Vancouver (BC) to Vancouver (WA)"?
106.1 stays the same for younger listeners so that they can hear Rihanna's "Only Girl in The World" for the 20th time
106.9 stays the same
107.7 revives as KRAB (bring back that weird world music they used to play!)

Great ideas! I'm always open to selling my call letters for the right price... bring the Brink's truck down here.

My changes would be

97.3: Bring back KNBQ (Top 40)

100.7 Becomes Otis @ 100.7 - The Talk Of Seattle with R/M afternoons and Andy Savage Mornings...
