Let's program 610 WTEL

So the station is officially described on the Beasley site as "sports/talk" [http://bbgi.com/station/wtel-am/]. Clearly the CBS Sports Radio lineup is at their disposal, but what would YOU like to hear on the new 610?

My votes- clearance of Jay Mohr's sports program. He knocks it out of the park with the sports/hot talk hybrid that seems to work for Jim Rome. Also- the Bob Levy evening show currently heard on WMEX in Boston and WILC in DC.

It'd be fantastic if they could somehow clear WBZ's overnight talk programming too. It'd also be fantastic to have a money tree grow me the funds to by WWJZ.

What else?

Since I don't like sports, I'd like to have C2C every night on WTEL

Also, have some WNJC programming on there.

I won't be shocked if Beasley drops CBS Sports Radio on 610 AM. BTW Will any play by play sports remain on 610 AM or will Villanova and St. Joe's will have to find new radio homes for their games?

Likely preachers & infomercials on 610.
that could be heard on 1060 & 1210 some day too
if cbs sells those stations.
the other option for AM radio is hispanic programming .

Get real, folks. Beasley (rhymes with "sleazily") is already calling this a sports station. There are already two sports talk stations on FM. It is highly unlikely they will spend the money necessary to launch a third local-live sports talk station on AM, especially considering number two has about half the audience of number one. The station will (continue to) be automated, computer in a closet syndicated sports talk.

The question then is which sports talk wall to wall syndication service will they take? Continue with CBS? Fox Sports (Clear Channel)? ESPN? Move ESPN Deportes over from 860?

Nice thing about syndicated sports. It's cheap. And advertisers buy it even if ratings are infinitesimal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting this to stop being a computer-in-a-closet station (save for any brokered programming they want to do, and that too will probably be taped). I'm just brainstorming what syndicated fare could end up there. The NBC Sports afternoon show co-hosted by Donovan McNabb could potentially be a draw. Though seeing how the new logo doesn't incorporate any of the CBSSR logo (or any sports motif whatsoever), it leads me to believe the schedule might become a bit more varied. Then again, I also had high hopes for IQ... ha!

Conceivably, they could cherry-pick from the various syndicated sports talk feeds. Depends on what kind of deals they can get (for individual shows v. taking the feed wall to wall).

But if they were going to do an "all star" schedule...

Morning Drive: WPEN already has Mike and Mike from ESPN Radio. I'd go with Imus. No name recognition or following for anybody else.
Late Morning: Dan Patrick from Fox Sports Radio
Midday: Jim Rome from CBS Sports Radio
Afternoon Drive: McNabb and Malone from NBC Sports Radio
Evening: I'd grab as much local play by play as I could get. Take any syndicated show for back-up. Advertisers love to support the home team, even if nobody listens. Often the school provides play by play for free.

I think they will keep the CBS sports -- for now. They will start adding in the paid shows on the "off" times, like Saturday morning, Sunday morning and late nights. (Not sure if anyone buys overnights.) With a nice big signal like 610 has, they will be able to get more money than on their other stations.

"Sports talk" is a holdover in the Beasley web server from the last time they had a station called WTEL. CBS Sports Radio is a holdover from CBS to keep the signal on the iar while they line up a leased time client base. The station will be 860's big sister as soon as the contracts are drawn up.

I won't be shocked if the entire format that's on 860 WWDB, moves to 610 AM WTEL.

Not being a sports fan, I would love to see Beasley put on syndicated talk. Don't see that happening. Great signal on 610,but I can envision brokered programming/ethnic,etc.

Radio Locator has it recorded as WTEL 610 Philadelphia - Religious Station
The owners of the station are WCHZ license llc. So I found this from FCC info.
Listed in the pile of stations these folks own is WTEL 610 Philly.

and yet
Beasley has a site too for 610 WTEL Philly. No info other than to say it’s a CBS Sports Radio Network affiliate.

Here is Beasley’s site, which lists its stations/COL including Wilmington’s WJBR. Beasley does have a couple Religious stations, but mostly secular music and talk formats including CBS Sports Radio Affiliates, in Charlotte, Tampa, and Boston. So 610 WTEL might stay a CBS Radio Sports Network affiliate.

What, there's not enough right-wing talk in this market, especially given a declining audience and ad revenue?
