Let's re-program WRKO - A call to "experts"!

Hey -

Instead of beating the "I hate WRKO" horse some more, put your Programming Caps on and come up with a schedule for September 1st!

Log off your fantasy football sites and try radio programming!

My 1st time here as a would-be Programming Expert:

5:30-9AM - Scotto (period). He's shown he can carry the show, easily.

9-Noon - Glenn Beck. Great radio - fast, funny, entertaining. One to watch.

Noon-3PM - Rush. Still the man to beat - saved AM radio single-handedly <:)>. Educated and involved millions of Americans who otherwise would never have become politically aware/active.

3-7PM- Howie and VB. Doug's a perfect counterpoint for Howie. Remember "The Pit"!!!!!! We know Howie was never syndie material - let's keep it local, fast-paced and claim 5-6 affils in NE and be happy with it.

7-10PM - Sean Hannity. Beats Savage's unlistenable Rage-Radio any day.

10-1AM - John Batchelor. Worth tuning in for John Loftus and terrorism talk alone.

1-530AM - Crop circles, black helicopters and time travellers. Priceless!

Just my .02

hmm...what is it with former politicians like Bluto getting shows.
Marge Clapprood, Ray Flynn, Shannon O'Brien (on TV 56). Maybe Mitt
will resign to run for Prez and can do fill ins for 'RKO or 'TKK.

Yeah not bad from what I've heard of him

Still gets the libs mad, so he's doing his job.

YES! Quit the Fox job, Dougie :)

Yes though 'TKK has the rights.

Haven't really had the chance to hear because it's either Sox or
Hannity for me

How about:

Interesting idea - I first heard Hendrie on a Maine FM (WLOB?). He really had me going for awhile. Novel concept, great execution. Wonder if up-all-nite urbanites would bite, and more importantly, stick around?

WRKO caught ex-rep Bluto on the rebound after the Massport "Booze/Boob cruise" "Gidget goes topless" debacle. He had great name recognition - and he parlayed that into quite a few years in AM drive. Not a bad run at all, but Scotto has clearly taken over the show.

I missed the guest appearance of a former newsradio reporter recently on WRKO. Did she seem suited for Talk, or was she simply airing her grievences? That name recognition thing, again. Possibly a Marjorie to Scotto's Pat Whitley?

Any opinions on Tony Snow? I've only heard him once - sounded like a well-produced show, and Snow seemed well-prepared and engaging.

I've heard it through tapes sent by aircheck traders. Hendrie does
all the voices (host/guest/callers) or at least most of them. Example
(I'm making this up):
"OK, we're talking to (name) who thinks it should be legal for anyone
to drive, even if you're 12 or 13."

Guest: "That's right, Phil, you know kids these days are more
responsible than you'd think. I have a 12 year old son who drives to
school every day."

Phil: "...drives to school, are you crazy?"

Guest: "Not at all. We don't have bus service where we live and I have
an old Chevy just lying around, so he drives it to middle school. He
has to kinda sit on a cushion to see over the dashboard but we're
thinking of getting built up pedals, you know, like the ones short
people use to drive."

Phil: "Caller, you're on the Phil Hendrie show"

Caller: "I think this man is insane! There are 17 and 18 year olds who aren't
mature enough to drive--they can drive legally but they speed and drive
recklessly--"

Guest: "Ma'am..ma'am? Now that might be YOUR son who can't handle it, but
mine can... he's very mature for his age"

And so on--again, that was just me making it up and that's kind of what
Hendrie does.

I remember when they had Bluto "audition", filling in for Howie.
He sounded nervous and was soft-spoken, etc.
He needs a partner--but as you say, maybe the partner can handle
it on his own. I don't really listen often so I can't say.

Is Blute back from vacation? I heard him say five words this morning, which is five more than I heard any day last week when he was "on vacation."

I think he's gone already, but Dooley slips in a taped clip every once in a while.

Unfortunately, second to Ingraham in affiliates, but does well on CC's flamethrowers in the midwest.

Savage puts up good numbers. Although, as to TKK having the rights, they could push ABC using the Batchelor and ABC News cards for Hannity with a better timeslot following PMD. Then, TKK could be the TRN station with Savage live and Ingraham late nights. Fantasy?... probably.

Too much entertainment. KFI recently bumped him, as have many stations who wanted to maintain a strong NEWS/talk image. I love the show, but not everyday, and not when I'm tuning into a station with news and serious political talk.

As to Tony Snow, he is a huge bore. Note his sleep-inducing fill-ins for Rush and how infrequent they were compared to Hedgecock, et al. He and Joe Scarborough should be prohibited from having a syndicated midmorning show. Yawwwwwn.

> I like your ideas. But, I'd add The Sixty Second Trivia Quiz throughout the day (Mark Snyder hosts this on WMJX-FM, WROR-FM and WBOS-FM at night) and I'd add Tom Cuddy to handle sports, and Ron Hurst to do news.
