Let's see how this goes, If you had the WBCN signal at your disposal and you needed to fill the AM morning drive shift now Howard is gone, what would you do?

Personally, I would go for a local in house show, topical, local and fun.Put a good strong budget towards the show and let it fly.......

What are your thoughts????

It's not the size of the tower.....
It's how you use it.

Local is what is going to seperate broadcast from XM or Sirius radio

Call Chuck over in Maui and see if he is available

Stern proved that you don't have to be local to be successful. Listeners don't care if you are in Boston or Burbank. If you've got an entertaining show then people will listen. It's as simple as that. Stern is virtually irreplaceable. He's a legend, an icon, Top Dog. You can't just can't replace him with any schmuck and expect the same Numbers. The Bar has been raised. Whoever replaces Stern better be damn good if WBCN wants to hold onto their audience. Unfortunately once people start missing Stern is when WBCN will take it's biggest hit. But WHO replaces Stern is a Moot point since we already know who it's going to be. In my honest opinion it was one of the worst choices that could have been made. I realize that CBS wants to go in a new direction. I just had no idea that the Direction was going to be Straight Down. WBCN has it's work cut out for them. I wish them much luck. They are going to need it.

However if it was up to me who would take over mornings I would have at least attempted to replace Stern with someone who does the same type of Radio. A Personality who could have at least done a decent job at entertaining the Stern audience in the same manner that Howard did. I would have hired someone like "MANCOW". This way perhaps WBCN could have held onto a good portion of it's audience in the morning. As it stands I believe that WBCN will lose at least half of it's morning audience once David Lee Roth takes over. He's not comparable to Stern in any way, shape or form and I can already hear people turning the dial to find something else. Personally I think that Mattie at KISS 108 will be the big winner in town. He's got a genuinely funny personality which is the closest thing to Stern's genuinely funny personality that Boston has. If I wasn't following Stern to satellite I personally would just be tuning into Mattie in the morning. I predict that he'll benefit the most by the loss of Stern. He's simply the best alternative option available.

Not sure I agree on this...it seems the last thing you'd want is a Stern clone/wannabe. As to whether DLR is the answer, time will tell but I'd say they're on the right track by replacing Stern with something completely different. His schtik wasn't to my taste, but there's no denying Stern was one of a kind.

How much audience did Matty & Stern share? Probably not much. Yeah, he'll benefit because a major competitor is gone from the market but I can't see him picking up any of Stern's audience.

How long does anyone give DLR? I give him 6 months. I hear he's a real a-hole to work with. I'd love to know Infinity's thought process putting him behind the mike. Live and local is the only way terestrial radio wins. Just my opinion.

Well, I don't think Dale Dorman would exactly mesh, should 'ODS ever go oldies. Same with John Lander at Mix.

I think the best bet would be for CBS radio to spin off ZLX. If ZLX doesn't pull cume from BCN, it prevents them from having a more diverse playlist.

But you didn't ask that question, let's see...
I agree with Neggy, any chance they could bribe Charles Laquidara into comming back?
Or, how about Friazer Smith?

What? And I guy like Stern who bashes his employer on the air, constantly, is not?

Do you suggest that's not part of Stern's act?

Everyone seems to call Stern an "ACT". I feel quite differently. I think everyone else is the "ACT". Stern is the one person who is genuine. He's NOT acting. His emotions on air are very REAL.

No, I'm not suggesting that at all.
What does it matter?

And Smoke knows that this thread had NOTHING to do with whether Stern was an Act. The question was, who should do mornings on 'BCN. I was simply stating that DLR is no different than Stern. Please, lets not get drawn into a debate about whether Stern's act is honest or not. When you say something on the air with conviction, it does not matter whether it is an "act" or not.

The fact: Stern bashes his employer. I bet DLR will be no different.
And I can't wait until life turns sour on Sirius...

I say hire a morning guy, call him "Fenway" and fire him a year later and replace him with another "Fenway" the very next day. Then, add a guy and call him Melvin X. Melvin and another one called Dan Donovan. Fire them, too, in a year or so and bring in new people and have them use the same names.

Wait a minute....

Perhaps they can try something that seems to be alien to radio shows during the morning.

Play something they call MUSIC?
