This was posted a while ago. Now that time has passed... Have you reconsidered? If you were to be able to start a new station (regardless of format), and you could have your pick of any local talent, who gets your vote? For the sake of arguement...no trackers or syndicators.MORNING SHOW:NEWS TALENT:MIDDAYS:AFTERNOON DRIVE:NIGHTS:OVERNIGHTS:pROMOTIONS DIRECTOR:GENERAL MANAGER:OWNERSHIP (of all in Bako):It's your turn to put together the All Star Team. Who's on it and WHY?And also, which station is best for:COUNTRY:AC:RHYTHMIC:NEWS:OVERALL:

Who gets your vote? For the sake of arguement...no trackers or syndicators.MORNING SHOW:Hard one but I would have to go with Ken & Jenn for the sake that they are trying hard. Much like Dean and Rachael, they are targeting a bit of a younger croud than Steve and Jeff who seem to be very happy with their "Family" of listeners. NEWS TALENT:Blake Taylor and Marcella Salareo. Blake has such a smooth delivery and Marcella always seems to have a hand in the top stories. It seems like KUZZ has shaved a minute or two off of their afternoon newscasts as of late leaving me wanting more... when I don't have time to "find more local news at KUZZ.comMIDDAYS:KC Mcbride. This is a hard area being that not many stations have live talent during the mid days. AFTERNOON DRIVE:Taking Sammy out due to him being tracked, I would gave to go with Partyboy and Melissa on KeLLy. As far as a "Show" goes, these two bring a morning show theme to the P.M. Drive, much like J.R. Hall used to do. It's a refreshing change to the afternoon. NIGHTS:KUZZ or Hot OVERNIGHTS:Is anyone live overnight?PROMOTIONS DIRECTOR:I will say I am seeing a bit more of KBKO out and about. It seems that I'm not seeing KeLLy out as much as I used to. I think I would have to give the nod to CC. GENERAL MANAGER:Currently, I would have to go with Mel Owens. Much has been on the plate as of late. His station captured the attention of the entire city for a time in the recent past. They have kept the spirits up and the attention to the music solid. OWNERSHIP (of all in Bako):For the sake of giving to the community, I again would have to go with the Buck crew. It's your turn to put together the All Star Team. Who's on it and WHY?And also, which station is best for:COUNTRY:This is tough. CC is getting a button push more and more these days, but the new music director at KUZZ has brought back a good amount of songs that I haven't heard in awhile. AC:Still to repetitive, but KeLLy is still the most active AC and outside the morning show is fun to listen to. I just wish I could hear more live talent. NEWS:KERN is the news leader in town. Jeff Lemuchi had a morning show that was a bit smoother than KERN's and it was a shame to see it canned. New Catagory:Talk:Like it or not, Ralph and Jazz have made their marks in local talk radio. I love that they are on after Scott and Inga. I skip Rush and I skip Savage. Like'n it local. I still think Scott and Inga and mainstays and benchmarks in Bakersfield and are a bit eaiser to listen to than Ralph and Jazz. The biggest disadvantage to Jazz and Ralph is the Dodger games. East coast and daygames bump the talk shows, and bump me to Don and Mike. Thumbs up to KERN with the morning talk lineup. Kudos the Buckley for a strong and growing effort. OVERALL:Some stations are trying to entertain but many are after the almighty dollar. For to many stations, the listeners are the ones paying for poor quality as live talent continues to be replaced by subpar tracking. For those who care about your listener as much as you do your advertisors, congrats!!! You get it. For those of you who care about your wallets, You get by. Live + local = loyal![/quote]

This would be fun...MORNING SHOW: Of all the LOCAL shows, I'd lean to Ken and Jen too, just because the energy, imaging and topicality is just plain better than the others in town, though I do want to hear more before I proclaim Jen a great replacement for Laray. I will say that I think ANY show in town with Ken will work, I think he is the driving force on whatever show, and he's now had 3 partners and the quality has stayed. Doesn't hurt to have a guy with so much PD experience in that role either.NEWS TALENT: I like Danielle Sullivan, although its hard to beat Mark Howell and his experience. If I'm starting a NEW station, I'm going younger with Danielle...and she's hot too.MIDDAYS: Anne Kelly. I know she's not on that daypart now, but if I'm building a station, she's it. NO FEMALE can touch her talent. Okay...and have you seen this woman lately. OUCH!AFTERNOON DRIVE: Danny Spanks. Nothing better in the market than the Butcher.NIGHTS: Bruce Wayne. Can ANYONE else get away with what he does in any other market? Nope.OVERNIGHTS: Since no one is live anymore...I'd put MIKE BELL FROM HELL back on the air in a place where his lunacy would rock.PROMOTIONS DIRECTOR: Tracy Peoples used to be the choice here. Now that she's at 29, I don't see anyone standing out, although, you have to give Jerry Huffer a nod, for just the fact that he's actually having to work now that KBKO has been out-hustling his manager. Jerry has kept KUZZ and the Palace going.GENERAL MANAGER: Mel Owens. We're going to really find out how good (or how bad) he is now that Buck is gone. OWNERSHIP (of all in Bako): Buck Owens Productions. For on air talent, no other company has the loyalty and benefits that Buck provided. Clear Channel treats their people like they're disposable, AGM has gotten rid of everyone live, and Buckley just doesn't pay competitively. And also, which station is best for:COUNTRY: KUZZ wins. I think KBKO when it came on the air sounded TONS better than it does right now (not a fan of the whole artist/title thing). It seems to me the music mix on KBKO is different than when it came on the air..way too current, not enough oldies. Now its sounds like its trying to catch up to KUZZ.AC: Though I'm not a fan of Dean and Rachel (they belong on KLLY), KGFM wins over the Breeze simply because the Breeze sounds like the lounge in a funeral parlor. KLLY is one of the country's worst sounding Hot ACs and needs an overhaul.RHYTHMIC: Hot. Stays Hot. Loyal audience. Needs to increase their street presence though.NEWS: For local news...nobody beats KUZZ, not even the NEWS stations! For News/Talk, KNZR ROCKS! Great job getting Rush!! And I'm a slow convert to Jazz and Ralph...although you've GOT TO STOP SAYING YOU'RE NUMBER ONE WHEN YOU'RE NUMBER 10!!! No one cares that you're number one out of a 3 station race!OVERALL: Best station...The Fox. Though I think Steve King has totally f-ed up the music by reacting to Pirate, the Fox may have it's ebbs and flows...but it still has Bob and Tom and Anne Kelly and a hell of a reputation.HOW ABOUT THIS QUESTION...BEST STATION WEBSITE?
