Has Joel Hollander become the new Randy Michaels? These boards always have to find someone to vilify. As in Michaels case, I suspect the strong emotion shown toward Hollander is misdirected. I met Hollander once - in the early WFAN days. Yet my first impression was highly positive. And that comes from someone who was saddened to see oldies go in Chicago and NYC - and hated reading Wednesday's news about Winston and Biondi.
It's not surprising that he left you impressed. Most CEO-types are exceptional interpersonal communicators. He started as an A.E. in sales, so glad-handing is second nature to him (maybe first).
But, in business, we keep score by checking the health of the company you run. And Hollander's company is in such horrible shape, Wall Street thinks Redstone is seriously considering selling off its assets.
His only business strategy has been cost cutting. And that rubs programmers the wrong way. No raises. Fire good people and pay green people less money to do the same job. It's an absolutely disasterous way to run an entertainment company.
