Letterman Question

For several years. David Letterman would do bits with Rupert Gee owner of the Hello Deli. Than all of a sudden no more. Does anyone here
know what happened? Did the deli close? Dave & Rupert have some sort of disagreement? Some of those bits lke "Psychic Sandwich" were really funny.
 
Rupert's deli is still there. They played a game at the deli I think as recently as within the last month. The Hello Deli also made it into a monologue joke within the last week (Dave said that mosquitos were starting to breed in one of the soups).

Joe G's Pizza shop moved several years ago, where they also used to play many games. That might be what you're thinking of.
 
On a quick trip to NYC in 2001, while driving thru Times Square and other parts, I decided to look around the corner after passing the Ed Sullivan Theater. I was surprised to find the Hello Deli closed/grated/padlocked, early in the afternoon on a Saturday. I figured Rupert and his helpers would appreciate the extra tourist biz, but I guess it looks like he names his own hours.

The only other neighbor change I think I recall is Mujibur and Sirijul that were at the Rock America (I think that's what it was called) and they came on one night and said they wouldn't be there anymore, or the store closed, or something like that.
 
I miss those two! They were awesome! I met them separately in 1994 and they were very cordial. Mujibur was the more comical of the two. :)
 
I could have sworn that Dave said Rupert was moving and then they played a video taped segment of all his best moments. You are telling me that I didn't see this? I must be looking into the future then. That's pretty weird. Is there any chance that all this did happen, but Rupert decided to stay afterwards? Because I am telling you that I could swear that I remember all of this happening about two years ago.


Edited note: I might actually be thinking of Sirajul and Mujibur. So nevermind. lol
