Letterman's Mom with Top Ten List

On last night's (Fri 6/17) Late Show, Dave's mom Dorothy had the Top Ten list via satellite from her home in Indianapolis. The subject was "Top 10 Things Dave's Mom is doing for her birthday". Dorothy is turning 88 years old.

Dorothy did a great job and was her usual funny self. Two things included "Watching the kid who replaced Leno" and "Attending a 'Fire David Letterman' rally". :D

I haven't seen Dorothy on the show in quite some time (granted, I'm not always awake watching late night tv) and I couldn't recall her being on his annual Thanksgiving show last year although, checking Youtube, I did find last Thanksgiving's bit. Apparently, 2007 didnt' happen because of the writer's strike. Turns out she also did a top ten this past Mother's Day.

Dorothy has obviously slowed down quite a bit, and is looking a bit frail (she doesn't let go of that kitchen counter), but, for 88, she does look great, and it was great to see her. The audience loved her.

I'm guessing (and it's only a guess) that her segment may have been taped outside of the show-taping itself, perhaps in front of the audience but before the show itself. Or, taped without the audience and they just played it for the audience. Or maybe it was done right there "live" during the show taping.

I have no idea. Point is, it was great to see her. ;D

I couldn't find video of last night's Top 10 on either youtube or CBS.com but here's the list:

Top Ten Ways Dave's Mom Is Celebrating Her Birthday

10 Driving to area Denny's to get free birthday meals

9 Checking the Internet to see how much you spent on my gift

8 Helping my neighbor get a raccoon out of his attic

7 Online poker

6 Just read my Twitter page, it's all there

5 Relaxing outside with my pool boy, Ricky

4 Going to a "fire David Letterman" rally

3 Spend day fishing with Sarah Palin

2 I'm gonna watch the kid that replaced Leno

1 I wasted the entire day on this stupid Top Ten list

Granted, when the time comes of her passing, it will be, naturally, a tremendous blow to Dave and the show. I forsee him taking 2 weeks off for personal grieving.

And possibly CBS airing a special Late Show clip show devoted to her. Don't forget she was Dave's Olympics correspondent a few years back. Remember when she interviewed Hillary Clinton and Nancy Kerrigan?

If Dave (or more likely, his writers) are still making lame jokes about Sarah Palin or "fire Dave" rallies, then maybe it is time for Dave to retire! ::) The top 10 list that Bruce Willis read on the night that Paul McCartney was there also had reference to a "fire Dave" rally! ::) Enough with the "fire Dave" jokes! They have gotten old and lame! Let's have a "retire Dave" rally!

Dave's mom is actually funnier than he is! And it took Paul McCartney to get me to watch Dave's tired old show again! ::)

In all fairness, it wasn't Letterman doing anything to make that topic fresh--it was a certain governor deciding to resign.

"Was it something I said?" :D

Again, after a month and a half, he should move on! And kudos to her for NOT agreeing to appear on his show!
