LeVeille on the state of talk...

"I stopped listening to talk radio a long time ago" (Steve LeVeille,WBZ-overnight-guy 7/25). Well, I'd agree with that forthright assessment. At least as far as daytime telephone talkers go. Drive-timers Stern in the morning and Big O in the afternoon really aren't Severin or Limbaugh type of talk which I also gave up on "a long time ago." For me, daytime telephone-talk is dead.

Even Jordan Rich? Lovell Dyett?

This would be kind of like a rock star saying he stopped
listening to rock a long time ago (but still does it for
a living)

Not sure I've heard Jordan Rich (other than his features), but Lovell Dyett is truly painful to listen to.

A terrible thing for a talk host to say: I hate our product!

WBZ's boring, they even put themselves to sleep.

Jordan Rich is on Friday and Saturday nights at Midnight and Sunday at 10.

Jordan happens to be one of the good guys in this crazy business. Several of his mentors were Roger Allen and the "Norm Nathan Person..."

Give Jordan a listen. Tends not to be controversial which fits the time slot he has and gives Jordan an opportunity to display his wide variety of interest.

Jordan Rich does a pretty good show--I definitely tune in when he has the movie panel on featuring Garry and Marilyn Armstrong and my friend Frank Ochieng.

I don't really listen to Lovell (other than a few times--usually I don't
listen to radio on Saturday nights) but some people do enjoy him. "Spend
your time well, it's the only money you have. I love you, I love you
madly."

He was one of a kind and I still miss him to this day. Jordan Rich has a good show and some interesting callers, the lady that calls up and tap dances is fun, among the WBZ regulars. Definetly worth a listen.

I stopped listening because...

Well, I stopped listening to RADIO, just for programming's sake a long time ago. But, I still get my diet of it while listening to radio in search of AM/FM DX. Trouble is, everything sounds the same market to market, station to station. The only thing different is the jocks.

I'm not referring to subject matter, callers, music... no, I mean the SOUND of every station in each format is so alike the talker or CHR or HotAC in the next market, from the jingles, to the imaging, etc. Is everyone using the same voiceguy and Reelworld jingles these days?

Sorry... didn't mean to hijack the thread but much like my show... I say whatever pops into my head. So much for showprep LOL.

Jordan Rich is OK... sometimes has on some crackpots/shills for guests but it's good vanilla talk for late night.

I like Lovell's show... that voice. And it has substance.

Re: I stopped listening because...

I think you nailed it!
It's one thing to have a bunch of Hot Hit Top 40s, and another set of HitRadio Top 40's, all with their own individual style and music selection. But now, they're all just CHR...
