From Lew Dickey (Re: Susquehanna deal) "I think this is the catalyst for further consolidation that I've been talking about for some time"....

"I really believe consolidation helps on both sides — revenue and expense — and I think you're going to see some compelling reasons for it to continue. When it's done thoughtfully and you can put assets together that fit well into easy combinations and manage them effectively, we believe there's a great deal of benefit."

Dickey also says "there is a great deal of consolidation left for the radio industry….It isn't as consolidated as other industries.”

------
Lew, you forget to realize one important element ..Radio is unlike other industries controlled by the free enterprise system. Most industries do not have their resources owned by the citizenry. Radio waves, Lew Dickey, despite what you think you can control, are owned by the public. Therefore, comparisons to other industries are irrelevant. Control of the voices buy such a few is really against free enterprise and is what the Communication Act of 1934 was set up to block. The regulation of this industry was set up to prevent an individual or corporation like you from controlling the voices in the marketplace.

Lew, you may want to make a case for further consolidation, but the cards are stacked against you. You may have upped the ante on the barrier to entry to radio ownership, but we, the citizenry, still hold the trump card. In the end, the FCC reports to us, the voting citizens of the United States. We can vote you out of office before you ever sign on the dotted line for this deal.

I am against Lew and his arrogance, who is with me?

> I am against Lew and his arrogance, who is with me?

At this point, I claim his arrogance will be responsible
for THE biggest fall in radio. Of course, it won't
cost Lew or any of his partners a penny, but the
stockholder's will end up loving him.

Seriously, can anyone explain to me how in the
world any company can claim these 33+/- radio
stations are worth about $40 million each?

Then again, Q is worth half of the 1.2 billion
price tag. What was I thinking??? Brilliant.

When all this goes down, Cumulus will have to
flip on the old 3 kw transmitter to save $$$.
Enjoy it while you can.

I don't necessarily disagree with your overall point, but you have very little say in what the FCC does...or doesn't...do. They're an appointed board, not an elected one.

ahh, but we elect those who do the appointing ...and any rule significant rule changes change would have to be ratified by congress

Are you actually suggesting that the election of a President, or member of Congress, would be influenced by ANY decision made by the FCC? Not in this lifetime, my friend.

no, no not at all ..I am suggesting that any radical shift in ownership policy (IE: reversal of ownership limits, etc) would have to be shaped by congress and not the FCC...The FCC is just a body that oversees the law ..the law would have to be passed by the law makers

That settles it! In the 2008 election if I'm in the audience at one of those "town hall" formatted debates for the President ... if I get to ask a question it will be how there policies "will effect Q100".
Screw the Supreme court and if they have a litmus test for candidates for judges on aboration, I want to know their position on whether candidates for the FCC are pro or anti CHR radio.

I worked with someone who was dating Lew Dickey. Before I knew this, I noticed she'd been out all of Thanksgiving week. So I asked her if she'd been away. She said, "Yes. First we went to Rome and then to Palm Beach." I was a little taken aback. Then someone told me that her boyfriend was "Dickey." He came to the company Christmas party.

Someone in the office told me that on their third date, he gave her a car. I don't know whether or not that's true.

Impossible, Caller 10. You won't be able to ask YOURSELF
about how FCC policies will effect Q100
if your running for President. With a
brilliant beyond brilliant post like you just made,
I'm pushing for you to be nominated.
I'd bet you could easily become z-Pres by those of us into
RI just votin' for you. Heck, I'm pretty sure that at any give
time, 99% of the U.S. population
is also wondering about Q100, so you've got no competition.
How does it feel to have 08 locked up? What will be your
first action as President. Which radio station will cover
the swearing in, etc? Talk about a serious power increase.

I only say these things to get attention. This ranks up there with one other post that at the time was said to be the most stupid thing ever written on this board. I suggested that Q100 should drop the 'Q100' moniker and henceforth be know as 'Hot Hits 100.5 WWWQ'. Furthermore, just as in WNBC they put the emphasis on the 'N' in 'WNBC' (WNnnnnnnnnnnBC) .... I suggested that Q100 could put the emphasis on the 'Q' in 'WWWQ' so it would be know as 'Hot Hits 100.5 WWWQuuuuuuuuuuuuue'. Also I stated this would be a convenient way for the jocks to drag into the post. The liner/promo voice and shotgun jingles from JAM would also use this new unique positioning ..... sure to set 'Hot Hits 100.5 WWWQuuuuuuuuue' apart from the competition.

That and '955 The Beat' should drop the 'Beat' moniker and be known as 'Crunk 955'. Just think of the possibilities! They'd have Crunk cars, Crunk cash, and remotes from the 955 Crunk Crusier! (liner voice:) 'Crank up the Crunk'.

If "planet radio " got a shot, why not Crunk 955?

Biggie size your onion rings? No thanks. I have a successful career in IT with a Fortune 100 company here in Atlanta. Last potted up a mike in 1993, worked in this business 1987 - 93. Ironically, it was working with Selector (and briefly with Darts when working in traffic) that got me on my career path in computer science. When I write posts like this it's for comic relief more than anything else.

I'll have the number 3 value meal please. Thank you.

> I am against Lew and his arrogance, who is with me?

Like it or not, radio stations have become a commodity to be bought, sold and traded among those who have managed to work their way into a position to do so. Let's face it, these people care nothing about serving the public or what the radio station sounds like - all they care about is the profit margin and the stock price. Radio stations can no longer be owned by radio guys, they can only be owned by Wall Street types who basically know nothing about the business. They pay themselves handsomely and cavort around the world on trips to Rome and Palm Beach, all the while the staff at the radio station must make do with a tattered old banner to hang up at remotes because there's no money in the budget for a new one. But the real question is... what does this have to do with Moby? Does Lew Dickey know Moby? Does Moby know Lew Dickey? Has Moby ever been to Rome or Palm Beach? And did anyone ever give Moby a new car on the third date?

LF:

So let me get this straight. What you are really asking is
"how will this effect Moby?" Oh, no.

My tongue was firmly in my cheek when I wrote that part. Yea baby!
