Lew Dickey in Town

I heard rumors that Lew Dickey was in town this week to give hell to the Knoxville sales team. I have read that he only goes in to markets that are really not doing well. I don't have any first hand information since I don't work there so I can only speculate. I feel badly for the people there who have to put up with the Cumulus culture to begin with and now they have to get beaten over the head by the big Dickey himself. It's a sad state of affairs for our business if Cumulus represents the new norm.

There is a dwindling number of good people still there. Most of the remaining ones are there because they didn't see the point of walking away from a pay check in an economy like this. A few have left recently because that pay check is no longer sufficient reason to stay.

If he was in town, dollars to donuts it was to tell the sales staff that his system works and he will get rid of them if they can't comply with it.

I had heard this rumor a few months ago that Dickey or someone high up decided to have a coming to Jesus with the WIVK sales staff. It seems the senior WIVK sales staff grew tired of having their ball busted on increasing revenue; keep in mind the station, did and may still, bill a million a month far out-billing the rest of the dial. The Cumulus jackass, possibly Dickey, told the sales staff if they didn't like it there is the door. Based on what I have heard about Cumulus the story might be true.

South Central is the big biller in town now. WIVK's million dollar months are long gone.

Indeed, the big biller in Knoxville is now South Central. WIVK is no longer billing $1,000,000 months any longer.

Citadel messed up when they let the LMA of 100.3 go.

And there's an office full of escapees at Downtown West grateful for Citadel's stupidity.

And today, one of Dickey's henchmen is in town following up. That's probably not good news.

As WIVK goes downhill, I look for an automated music format on WOKI 98.7 to replace talk. I look to see True Oldies Channel back in down the road as Cumulus corporate ditches overhead. If WNOX stays talk, I look for HHH and Dave Foulk to jump ship there.

Interesting mental picture of this. Anybody remember the old Batman TV show from the 60's? Cool if Lew could dress his henchmen in black-and-gray horizontally striped shirts, and give them masks.

Lew Dickey now has competition in the Knoxville market they never saw coming. And I see them being a poor Third Place with Journal and South Central both eating their lunch.

Very true Kent but still, kinda sad to see what is happening to the house that Jim Dick worked to build over the years. Huge difference between a class act like Mr. Dick who valued and respected his people and an outfit like Crumulus. Big reason why they are in decline now.

It is sad. Dick Broadcasting was nothing but the classiest broadcasting company. And were quality people persons who ran their business with the best of everything. Been a WIVK listener since I was a toddler and the FM signed on. Cumulus totally blows!

I really figure that the Q will be parked on 100.3. And will be WIVK-FM's logical successor. I look to see the Q #1 in 18-54 adults or #2 minimum.

Lew thinks he is God's gift to broadcasting. I've never met a bigger p***k. So glad I don't have to deal with the Cume-less BS anymore.
