Lewiston/Auburn Fall 2010 Ratings

I hear embargo a lot on here. What does it actually mean?

Arbitron does not release the ratings to the public for that market because it has found that non-subscribers have used the public numbers.

and from what i understand, not many around subscribe

This may be one of the last ratings books for this market. Arbitron is apparently doing a market redefinition of the Portland Metro to include Androscoggin County among others.

Isn't the redefinition to include Northern York county also. This should be great for Nassau.Combining the numbers of Lewiston and Portland.Frank & the Wolf do great up there. Also look at the big increase WJBQ would have if the numbers were used from this book.SAGA seems to the the one that would be hurt by this.Except for 'POR all their other stations don't do much in L/A.

WJBQ big winners. Coast and Frank tied for 10th. Getting rid of their morning guys didn't exactly pan out.

CLZ 11th.

My, my, that's alarming for Frank! Not to mention they're down to two male voices, Stan and Leif (Heidi til 9 obviosly) from the crack of morning drive to the very end of the commute... Wonder how our pal Francis will climb back to respectability, or if they will at all... I can't remember the last time YNZ topped FNK...

Glug glug!

Cheers,
OldPort Wino

Sadly, you can't take Arbitron too seriously anymore. The sample ratings may be enough to complete the basic formula....but the samples are WAY too small to ever get a realistic idea on how many are listening, market share, etc. Their computations are just not that reliable.

Why do you think so many stations (nationwide) have stopped subscribing?

Arbitron is a joke.

Seems to me, ME, NH & VT are ripe for an entrepreneurial person to start a ratings company. Time is needed more than $$ to do such. Gas for the car plus a clipboard, and one can interview far more people in public places than what is being offered to us traditionally.

But will the agencies take them seriously? Arbitron has not lacked for would-be competitors in the past, they've all folded within a few years. Remember Birch in the 80s, Willhight in the 90s?

Of course what's affecting all surveys (not just Arbitron) is the declining number of homes with landline phones. ISTR that pollsters, etc. are barred from calling cell phones.

All depends upon how well one markets it. Also taking on a small area (ME, NH, VT; or starting with just one and then expanding to 2 or 3) and doing it well makes a big difference.

It CAN be done successfully.
